How to Turn Off Galaxy S5 Camera Shutter Sound

There are lots of great features to like about the new Samsung Galaxy S5, and one of them is the impressive 16-megapixel camera on the back. However, if you don’t like the annoying camera shutter sound, we’ve got you covered.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is packed with tons of cutting-edge technology, impressive features, and tons of tweaks for everything. So many that some users may get a little frustrated trying to do the easiest tasks. A question we hear over and over is how to disable the Galaxy S5 camera sound.

For whatever reason, this is a feature that most smartphones don’t allow you to change. Be it for legal reasons, privacy (reptile shots) and respect, or just carriers who prefer certain things. Most of Samsung’s devices do not allow this to be turned off, but some Galaxy S5 owners have the option, which we’ll explain below.

Oddly enough, some of the Galaxy S5 models in the United States will let you mute the Galaxy S5 camera sound, while others will not. If you have a Sprint or Verizon Galaxy S5, you cannot remove the camera shutter sound with stock camera software and you will need to download a third-party camera with the option or use a 3rd party app this turns it off.

However, for the rest of Galaxy S5 owners in the United States, such as those at AT&T and almost all variants around the world, a quick stroll through the settings will get you fixed in no time.

It is worth noting that the above models should lose the shutter sound, as long as you turn the phone volume all the way down after vibration and set it to completely silent. However, we don’t have all five carrier versions here to test. But we do know there is no tuning on Verizon or Sprint’s model, but it’s available on T-Mobile and AT&T.

Instructions

Launch the camera app on the Samsung Galaxy S5 and tap the gear-shaped settings button. It should be located at the bottom left as shown in the image below. This will bring you to a fairly large list of options, controls and settings for the Galaxy S5 camera. As usual, there is much more than most users need, and you will not see an option to disable the camera shutter sound. A little further down the list.

However, scroll down (yes, there are a lot of settings you have to scroll if you hold the phone sideways) and near the bottom, you’ll see an option at the bottom right for the shutter sound. Just tap that to turn it off and you’re done. As long as your carrier allows the option, it’s that easy. Verizon and a few others don’t for whatever reason, but that’s out of our control.

Tap to turn the shutter sound “off” and you’re done. Now when you take a photo there will be no sound, but the rest of your device will still have normal volume and volume levels. Most apps or third-party software generally mute all sound when the camera is open, which isn’t ideal, but for some it’s the only solution.

Again, this option to disable the Galaxy S5 camera shutter is not available on all models of the Galaxy S5. Some have it, some don’t. It may also not be available in the same location on every Galaxy S5 carrier. Shown above is an AT&T model and you may need to look into other variants.
