If you want to import pictures into Photos on your Mac, here’s how to do it.
OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 was recently released, and with it came a brand new Photos app on Mac that replaces iPhoto and Aperture. It is a simpler photo management tool, but comes with a handful of features. This isn’t just an updated version of iPhoto either. Instead, it’s an entirely new app with lots of new features, including the ability to access your iCloud Photo Library, meaning that when you take a photo on your iPhone or iPad, that photo can be automatically viewed on your Mac via Photos. app, thanks to iCloud.
Perhaps one of the coolest features is that edits made to a photo on your iPhone or iPad in the Photos app can be automatically synced to all devices instantly, and vice versa.
The design of Photos on Mac looks nearly identical to how it looked in iOS 8, except for a few obvious design differences, as it’s on the Mac rather than your iPhone or iPad. In the app, you can do things like sort your photos and videos, and even view only special files such as panoramic, burst, slow motion and time-lapse video, separating all other photos and videos.
However, you need to import all your images into Photos before you can actually use them. Fortunately, it’s really easy to do, and once you’ve imported all your images into the Photos app, you can start editing them and even edit them using the basic editing tools provided in the app.
Importing Your Photos
One thing to keep in mind before importing your photos into Photos is that if you have iCloud Photo Library enabled, any photos you import into the Photos app on your Mac will automatically appear on your iPhone or iPad as well. This doesn’t use iPhone storage (rather iCloud storage), so if you only want your photos to appear in the Photos app on your Mac, make sure to disable iCloud Photo Library.
To do this, open Photos and click up on the menu bar in the upper left corner. Select and uncheck next. Photos you import into Photos won’t be copied to your iCloud Photos library.
Finally, follow these simple steps to import your photos into the Photos app:
If you have iCloud Photo Library enabled, it will take some time to sync all your photos to iCloud and make them viewable on your other Apple devices. Otherwise, all your photos will now be in the Photos app, and you’ll be able to edit, edit, etc. You can start.
