The new HTC One M8 was launched this month, and some buyers will upgrade from the original HTC One, the old HTC One M7, to enjoy the larger screen, improved bifocal camera and improved metal design. HTC makes it easy to move data from old phones to new ones using the free HTC Transfer Tool app. Owners can also use HTC Sync Manager, which they can install after connecting their phone to a Mac or Windows computer, but the Transfer Tool makes it easy.

Check if the old phone is available by opening the app. Find the section usually at the bottom of the Settings screen. On HTC One M7, the user can open Settings by swiping down from the top edge of the screen. Tap the icon in the top right. It looks like a 3×3 grid of squares. Tap at the bottom of the next screen. Scroll down to see. Tap to find the number that needs to be 2.3 or higher to use the tool.

Copying Data with HTC Transfer Tool
Load HTC Transfer Tool on old Android phone. Open it on the new HTC One M8 using the above method, which also works on the new HTC One M8. Swipe the settings screen to the menu item and tap it.
Find “Get content from another phone” in Settings.
The Settings tool includes four options as follows:
“Import content from another phone” shows four transfer options on HTC One M8.
Tap on it and choose between the two options on the next screen. The option only transfers contacts and requires connecting via Bluetooth. Skip this article to read how to do this. Choose the option instead.
The next screen explains what the tool will transmit. Tap at the bottom of the screen and see instructions on how to set up the other phone.
The instructions will tell the user to find and install the following. HTC Transfer Tool From Google Play Store. Then open the app on the old phone and make sure it shows the same 4-digit PIN code that the new phone shows. It will wait for the other phone to prepare itself. When the phones are connected using the app, tap and select all the content in the list that needs to be transferred to the new phone. Here is the list of what they can transfer:
Faucet Start and wait for the tool to finish. Some items take longer to transfer than others, so wait patiently for it to finish. The new phone’s screen will show the progress with each transfer.
Transferring Contacts Only Using Bluetooth Connection
First, connect the two phones via Bluetooth. Open the app and select it on both phones. Make sure both are set to use the scroll button at the top of the screen. Tap on the new HTC and it will discover the old phone. A box opens with a code on both phones. Make sure the code matches on both phones and select Pair on Each phone.
On the new phone, select the back button at the bottom of the left screen. It looks like a round arrow pointing to the left and sits just below the screen. Scroll down and tap on it. Select and then select.
A window will pop up instructing the user to turn on the old phone and then select it from the list in that window. If the user has connected the two phones via Bluetooth as suggested above, it should show the old phone already. Make sure the dot next to the phone is green and tap . The phone will find the contacts from the old phone and import them into the new phone’s internal contact list in the Phone or Contacts apps. It takes from a few seconds to a few minutes depending on the number of contacts the old phone had.
Once complete, the screen shows how many contacts the transaction has transferred. Tap on Done to finish.
The process will offer to remove duplicate contacts after transferring to HTC One M8.
If the new HTC One M8 is already holding some contacts, the process may create duplicates. This happens when contacts have already added their Google, Facebook, or other account, which includes syncing contacts, such as an exchange email account, before transferring.
The transfer process will offer to remove the duplicates that the user should probably do. The phone will scan for duplicates and allow the user to see the duplicates by tapping VIEW LIST or delete them by tapping DELETE NOW. The phone deletes the copies.
