How to Take Nintendo Switch Screenshots and Send to Phone

I’ve been mostly at home this year, which means I spend a lot of time playing games on the Nintendo Switch. If you spend a lot of time playing Switch games these days, you probably wanted to take some screenshots and share them with your friends. It could be beating Ganon in BoTW or a great team delete in Fortnite. If you want to share your best Switch moments, here’s how to take and send Nintendo Switch screenshots to the phone.

Take Screenshots on Nintendo Switch and Share them on Your Phone

In my experience, sharing screenshots from Switch used to be not so easy. You had to upload the images to Facebook or insert a microSD card to copy the images. What’s more, taking a screenshot isn’t very intuitive either because the button doesn’t look like a screenshot button at all. But that’s what it is.

In this post, I will show you how to take a screenshot on your Nintendo Switch and send the Switch screenshot to your phone. You can use the table of contents below to jump to the section you want.

1. How to Take a Screenshot on Nintendo Switch

Taking a Switch screenshot is easy once you know which button to use. Here’s how you can capture the screen on your Switch with ease.

When you’re in a game and want to take a screenshot, simply press the square button with a small circle inside the left Joy-con. This is the capture button.

Press it once and you will be notified on the screen that a screenshot has been captured. You can also hold down the button to screen-record a clip on Switch.

2. Where to Find Key Screenshots

Now that you have the screenshot you want to share, where exactly can you find it on the console?

On the Switch’s home screen, you’ll see an album icon on the bottom row next to the Settings, Nintendo eShop, and News icons. Tap this to open the album.

3. Send Key Screenshots Directly to Phone

Now let’s talk about actually sharing these screenshots with your smartphone. This wasn’t easy a while ago, but Nintendo has updated its Switch software to add a really useful new feature for sharing screenshots. Here’s how to use it.

  • Open a screenshot you want to share and press the A button on the Joy-con.
  • Select ‘Send to Smartphone’ from the drop-down menu.
