Before diving too deep, if you have a DLSR, it’s a good time to carry it with you and leave your Galaxy S5 or Galaxy S4 in your pocket. While there are plenty of apps and tips for taking good looking fireworks photos with the Galaxy S5 and S4, for most users, they can’t compete with a DSLR.
The 4th of July and the surrounding days offer great opportunities to use the Galaxy S4 and S5 to take amazing fireworks pictures that you can immediately share on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. You can even spice up the photos a bit with the photo editing apps on these smartphones.

Turn Off Flash
The most important thing to do is to turn off the flash. Flash not only ruins your photos, it also annoys everyone around you and interrupts the fireworks.

To do this, open the camera app, tap the settings icon, and then tap the flash until you see Flash Off or No next to the flash icon.

There is a delay between pressing the button and the Galaxy S5 or Galaxy S4 taking a photo. The same goes for the Galaxy Note 3. Galaxy S5 performance is slightly better than other phones but there is still a small delay before taking a photo. It’s a good idea to find out how long it takes before you get to the really good fireworks.
If you can practice in a dark room with a sparkler or even a candle, you’ll have a good idea. Unless you spend the first few fireworks figuring out when to press the shutter button. After a few minutes you should get used to it and start timing your photos. If you can’t set the timing exactly or you can’t hear when fireworks go off, you can use burst mode. This quickly takes a series of photos so you can take firework photos of the explosion in multiple stages.

Open the camera app, go to settings and turn on Burst Mode. When you’re ready, hold down the shutter button to take 20-30 photos in a single press. You have to hold it until it’s gone.
The Galaxy S5 takes 30 photos, while the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 take 20 photos in the same time frame.

Take Photos and Videos

The resolution of the photo is the same as the video, which means a small sacrifice, but this way you can achieve easier timing and you’ll get a nice looking fireworks video from the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4 or Galaxy even if your photos fail.
