Zoom is a popular and useful remote meeting and video conferencing tool. However, not everyone is comfortable with sharing videos unless necessary. Some like to show pictures instead of video at the meeting. How does one do this? Let’s find the answer to the question about showing pictures instead of videos in Zoom here.
While it’s easy to disable video in Zoom, it’s often replaced with your name. Now, a picture is always better than text, even if it’s just your name. So why don’t you hide it?
Let’s dig deeper into how to show an image instead of your name and video in Zoom meetings.
Show Image Instead of Video or Name in Zoom Meetings
Showing your picture on Zoom is not rocket science. You need to set a profile picture on Zoom. As a new user, you wouldn’t have done this yet on Zoom. So, now is the time. After setting a photo, it will automatically appear on the screen to change the name if the video is off.
Here are the detailed steps for both mobile apps and PC.
Keep Image Instead of Video or Name on Zoom on PC
There are two ways to change or add a picture in Zoom on PC.
Method 1: Adding a Picture Before Joining a Meeting
To do this, launch the Zoom application and click on your initials in the upper right corner. Select Change My Picture from the menu.
You will be redirected to the web version of Zoom. Click Change on the picture icon.
Then click Upload and add an image of your choice. Adjust the image to show the area you want to show. Finally, click Save.
Note: The image must be less than 2MB.
After saving, open the Zoom desktop app. You will see your picture in the upper right corner.
Then disable your video by clicking Turn off my video when about to join a meeting or Stop video when in a meeting. You can even right-click the video and choose Stop Video.
Pro Tip: Use the shortcuts Alt + V (Windows) and Command(⌘)+Shift+V (Mac) to enable or disable the video.
Your picture will replace the video.
Note: Repeat the steps to edit or remove the image.
Method 2: Adding Pictures in Zoom Meeting
If you’re already in a Zoom meeting, right-click your video preview screen. Select Add or Edit Profile Picture from the menu. Pause the video and you will see your picture.
Show Image Instead of Video on Zoom Mobile Apps
To do this, launch the Zoom app on your Android or iPhone. Tap the Settings tab at the bottom. Tap your name.
Fly: If you have already set an image, tap the image to view it in full size.
Next, tap on the Profile photo and add a picture from your gallery or take a new one.
Now disable your video before joining a meeting. Or you can tap Stop Video at the bottom in a meeting.
How to Delete Profile Picture
If you can’t completely remove the profile picture from Zoom mobile apps, you should try the web version. For that, go to web.zoom.us. Sign in with your Zoom account. Click on My Account at the top. Then click Delete below your image.
Tips and Tricks for Profile Picture
Here are some helpful tips on images in Zoom.
View Someone Else’s Profile Picture
While in a meeting, you can pause a participant’s video to view their profile picture. Only possible if you are the host of a meeting. To do this, right-click on the video preview screen and select Stop Video. You will have to let them show the video again as they can’t do it on their own.
Hide Participants with Profile Picture
If you have disabled a person’s video and you only see their profile picture or name, you can hide such participants from the screen. They will still be part of your video and can see your video if it’s open.
To hide non-video participants, right-click the window preview of that person in your meeting. Select Hide non-video participants.
Click on Total non-video contributors at the top to see them again. Select Show Non-Video Participants.
Always Show Profile Picture
If you always want to keep your video off so you don’t have to disable it over and over when joining a meeting, Zoom has a nice feature for that. That way, others will always only see your profile picture.
To do this, click on the settings icon in the Zoom app and go to the Video tab. Check the box next to ‘Turn off my video when joining a meeting’.
