Here is a colleague Boundary tells this story: “This weekend my wife said, ‘Google says I’m almost out of storage!’ and I said, ‘We have 2TB with Google One, that’s not possible.’”“What was the problem? Since you have set up family sharing with your Google account, you will not automatically start sharing your additional storage from Google One. You have to turn it on.
First, the basics: Google One it is actually the paid version of Google Drive. It gives you extra storage (beyond the free 15GB) to use across Drive, Gmail, and Photos, and lets you share that storage with up to five family members. The plans begin 100GB for $1.99 per month or $19.99 per year. If that’s not enough, you can get up to 2TB for $9.99 a month / $99.99 a year. really It has a lot to hide, plans go up to 30TB for $149.99 a month.
(If you’re still using a free Google account and don’t want to switch yet, you can go to: Google One page While you have to withstand the strong urge to buy the Google One, to take advantage of a tool that can help you free up some extra storage.)
If you want to share your storage, you must first create a shared family group. Here’s how:
- go to google family plan page and click “Get started”.
- Assuming you’re fine with Google Terms of Service and Privacy PolicyClick “Create family group”.
- You can invite up to five family members as long as they have Google accounts. There will be some suggestions listed, but you can type a name (if they’re in your contact list) or an email. If you wish, you can skip this step for now.
- An email will be sent to the person you invited and you will be emailed when they accept the invitation. The invitation will expire in two weeks.
After you set up your family account, you can set up your shared storage:
- In your Google One account, click the settings icon on the left.
- In the ‘Manage Family Settings’ dropdown, find ‘Share Google One with your family’ and turn it on.
Now members of your family can share storage with you. What this means is that once they use their free 15GB of space, they will have access to the additional storage your account has given them – it is. immortality It means you have access to their files unless they share it directly with you.
If you want to see how much storage each family member is using, go to your Google One account, click “Storage” on the left and select the down arrow next to “Family Storage”.
