I’d be lying if I said that Google Photos isn’t the most feature-rich photo gallery app among platforms, including iOS. However, while Google Photos offers a simpler way to manage photos and video footage, there is one part where it lacks simplicity – sharing. Yes, you heard right. So far, the app has forced users to create a shared album to share images, even if they consist of a single photo. This was really inappropriate; unless it’s silly. Fortunately, those days are gone as you can now share media on Google Photos using a direct message on your iOS and Android device. Here’s the step-by-step casting to get you started!
Use Private Messaging on Google Photos to Share Media on iPhone, iPad and Android Device
Recently, the search giant announced said it will add a private messaging feature to Google Photos to make it a little easier for users to share pictures and videos with friends and loved ones without having to create a shared album. Is direct messaging designed to replace other chat apps? No. The company reiterated that private messaging is integrated to make content sharing private and secure.
Note: Before we get into the summary, make sure Google Photos is updated on your device.
1. Start Google Photos on your device.
2. Now go to the photo(s) you want to share and select them. After that, tap on To share symbol.
Note: Alternatively, you can tap the Sharing tab > Start a new post > Add caption and select the photos.
3. Next, your friend’s name, phone number or email address. The app also suggests contacts so you can enter them easily.
4. Next write an appropriate message and then hit To send button.
Come in! Your friends will receive alerts inviting them to join the chat. And when they accept the invitation, they’ll be right on board.
Now that you have created the chat thread, you can use it to share more video clips and snapshots. Simply tap on Select the Sharing tab > Chat thread. Now, tap on the small photo button > select the pictures and send as usual. It works pretty well as a standalone messaging app.

This is the way to privately and securely share your personal photos and video clips via Google Photos. The integration of the direct messaging feature has been behind the demand to increase security and privacy. And as I see it, this is a step in the right direction. How do you evaluate this new feature?
