When it comes to getting directions these days, Google Maps is often just a tap away on our smartphones and tablets. Today, another feature has been added to Google Maps that many may be interested in, and that is sharing directions. Whether it’s for sharing with a friend or sending to someone with a dumb phone, it’s a welcomed release.
You’ve always been able to share your own location on Google Maps, even a location you were going to so your friends and family could easily click the link for their own directions, but now you can send them really easily. read text format. Here’s how to share directions with the new version of Google Maps 9.3 released today for Android.
Today, Google released a brand new version of Google Maps 9.3, which adds a new feature that allows users to easily share all driving routes and directions with others, along with some bug fixes and improvements. This is a nice feature for sending non-smartphones or emailing a tablet while on a trip.
This new feature allows any user who already has directions on Google Maps to share them with anything they want. You can send directions in a text message, email, hangout, or any of the multiple sharing options available on Android smartphones and tablets.
This has a wide range of uses, but most likely the other person has a smartphone and the link to location will be better than directions, but it’s a nice addition many people will want to try and use with family members.
Instructions
Open Google Maps and enter both a start and an end point. This can be your home or wherever you are and your final destination like a Restaurant. I’m going to a Pizza place for dinner tonight and using this new feature I shared the directions with some of my friends.
Once set, your start and end points go ahead and start directions. When you see the Google Map with directions below, just tap the 3 dots for settings on the top right; You will see a popup to “share directions” and simply select this option.
From here you will be able to share step-by-step instructions and instructions for any of the sharing options in Android. I emailed them but they also sent a very easy to read and understand mansion in a text message. It’s great for parents, the technologically challenged, or the person who doesn’t have a smartphone.
You’ll probably still want to just share the actual location you’re going to and let them get directions from their location, though. However, this is one of the many nice features integrated into Google Maps that make it one of the best solutions.
