If the two-finger tap gesture simplified the task of managing messages on the iPhone, the option to create an iMessage profile further enhances Apple’s already feature-rich Messages app. Before iOS 13, iMessage was not used to share any personal information with people when users communicated. While it was a good decision in terms of privacy, it certainly wasn’t in keeping with the times. In addition, this old-fashioned restriction will also force iPhone owners to manually set the pictures and names of their contacts in the address book. It was pretty tedious work, to say the least. Fortunately, those days are gone as you can now set name and photo sharing in iMessage on your iPhone and iPad.
Customize iMessage Profile for Name and Photo Sharing in iOS 13 and iPadOS 13
For those who like full customization, the stock messaging app offers multiple ways to customize their iMessage profile. For example, you can use a cool Memoji as your profile photo for iMessage. Besides letting you choose the image you want, the app also lets you decorate the status with crazy Animojis like poop, panda, pig, robot, ghost and more. Not to mention the filters and colors that can be very useful in improving the look of your photos. All told, let’s customize the iMessage profile for name and photo sharing in iOS 13 and iPadOS 13.
1. Start Messages Tap the app on your iPhone or iPad, and then three points in the upper right corner of the screen.
2. Now, a drop-down menu will appear at the bottom. To choose Edit Name and Photo.
3. On the next screen, tap on it. Choose Name and Photo. After that, you need to select your photo. You can set a fun-loving Memoji as your iMessage profile picture or go with a cool photo/selfie to make your picture look cute.

Be sure note icon is selected and then Go on. Now select the color you want and press Continue. If you want to start from scratch, tap on it. Pose > take a photo > tap Select. Next, tap on Continue.

If you want to set your Apple ID profile picture as your iMessage Profile picture, make sure it’s selected and then Go on. After that, a preferred filter and tap on Go on.
Just in case, if you want to set a different photo or an Animoji as your iMessage profile picture, tap on it. three horizontal dots.
Tap on it to select another picture. All photos Select , and then select the picture you want from your photo library. If you want to capture a new image, simply click on it. camera button and then take the picture as usual. After that, use your fingers to move and scale the image so it fits perfectly in the frame. Next, tap on Use Photo in the lower right corner of the screen. Then choose the one you want filter to enhance your selfie.
With set an Animoji as profile Picture of your iMessage, choose your favorite animation > give your favorite pose and press the shutter button > To choose. Now choose your favorite color. Finally, tap on Completed in the upper right.
4. After setting your profile picture perfectly, tap on it. Go on. After that, “Use This Photo Everywhere? Your Apple ID and My Card in Contacts will be updated with this photo.” Tap on To use popup to continue
5. Next edit your first and last name as you wish. In the Automatically Share section, you have two options:
- Contacts Only: Share your name and photo only with your contacts.
- Always ask: Get a prompt before your updated name and photo are shared.
Select your preferred option and then tap on it. Completed to finish.
From now on, every time you send a message to your contacts, your updated name and photo will be shared automatically. Next, the recipient will have the option to update the address book with your new name and picture.
How to Turn Off Name and Photo Sharing in iMessage on iPhone and iPad
If you later decide to stop sharing your name and photos with the people you contact for any personal reason, you can easily disable this feature directly from the Messages app.
1. Open the Messages app on your device, and then three points in the upper right. After that, choose Edit Name and Photo on the menu.
2. Now, turn off the switch next to it. Name and Photo Sharing. Then, make sure to tap on it. Completed Click on the top right to confirm that you want to disable this feature.
Note: You can also disable this feature from: Settings app > Messages > Share Name & Photo > Disable Name & Photo Sharing toggle.
