So you have a brand new Apple Watch with LTE and are wondering how to set up mobile data on your new smartwatch? While you may have the option to create a data plan on your Apple Watch when you first set it up, you can still set it up fairly easily if for some reason you skipped this step. Here’s how to set up mobile data on a cellular Apple Watch.
How to Set Up Data Plan on Apple Watch
Note: We tested this method on the Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE, but the steps will be the same for any Apple Watch with LTE.
- Open the Watch app on your iPhone and select your Apple Watch from the list. Normally the clock app will automatically open on the next page, but if you have multiple Apple Watches set up on your iPhone, make sure you select the one you want to set up LTE.
- Tap on ‘mobile data‘and then’Set up Mobile Data‘
- Once again, tap on ‘Set up Mobile Data‘. You will see your operator’s screen pop up. Tap ‘Enable Services’.
- Once the request is accepted, tap on ‘Okay, Got it’ and you’re done.
It will take a few minutes for the data plan to activate on your Apple Watch, and then you can use the watch even if it’s not connected to your iPhone. Usually, you’ll get a message from your carrier that your watch is paired with your cellular account, but sometimes it doesn’t. Despite this, your data plan will be activated in a few minutes.
Set Up and Standalone Mobile Data on Apple Watch
This is how you can create a data plan on your LTE-enabled Apple Watch. With an active data plan on your watch, you can use it independently of your iPhone. So you no longer need to carry your iPhone with you when you go for a morning run. It’s handy even if you accidentally forget your iPhone at home one day while you’re out and about.
