The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge come with a host of security features aimed at preventing theft and prying eyes. One of the first layers of security is the Galaxy S6 passcode lock, a feature that works in conjunction with the Galaxy S6’s enhanced fingerprint sensor. Today we want to show you how to set up Galaxy S6 password lock to protect your new phone.
In March, Samsung announced two new flagships, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, which have quickly become two of the best Android smartphones on the market. The two devices are packed with a host of powerful features, including Quad HD displays, gorgeous premium designs, excellent cameras, and a fingerprint sensor for added convenience and security.
The two devices come with a host of security features, including Android Device Manager, which allows users to wipe their phones remotely, and Samsung KNOX, a feature for corporate users. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge also come with some essential security features that only take a few minutes to set up and use.
How to Set Fingerprint or Password Lock on Galaxy S6
One of these features is the Galaxy S6 password lock. The Galaxy S6’s passcode lock is the first line of defense against potential thieves and friends who like to spy on your files and business. One of the first things you’ll want to do when you turn on your phone is to set the Galaxy S6 passcode, and we want to show you how to get the most out of this feature.
Here we show you how to set fingerprint password, pattern password, PIN and password. Each has a different security level, ranging from low (pattern/PIN) to high (password).
How to Set Up Galaxy S6 Fingerprint Sensor
The first time you turn on the Samsung Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge, the setup process will ask you to enter your fingerprints as an added layer of security. This assumes you didn’t install your fingerprint sensor during the initial setup process.
To install the Galaxy S6 fingerprint sensor, you’ll want to head towards the Galaxy S6s first. Once you’re there, you’ll want to select or . There you will find it. Tap on it.
Set up the Galaxy S6 fingerprint sensor for added security.
When you go inside, you will see a section under it. Tap this. If you have already set up your fingerprint sensor, it may ask for your fingerprint to gain access.
Next, you will want to select Add Fingerprint and then you will have to go through the process. The whole process only takes a few minutes as it asks you to enter your fingerprint. After you set up a fingerprint, you can add others. This is useful if you primarily use the hand or different fingers to unlock your Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge.
The Samsung Galaxy S6’s fingerprint sensor is a touch-based sensor which means you only need to press your thumb or another finger to unlock the phone.
If you spend a lot of time in one place, you’ll want to consider using it as well. To access it, go to the section. Once there, select .
Here, you can set your trusted places. When you set a trusted location, your phone will know where it is. Doesn’t require fingerprint scanning if it’s in a trusted location. But when you leave the area, it will lock itself.
How to Set Pattern
Likewise, you’ll find a few other lock screen options. Select to access them. Once inside, you will see a medium security feature named.
If you’ve owned an Android phone at any point before this, the pattern will likely look familiar. Pattern allows you to draw a unique pattern to unlock your Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge.
You can also set a pattern.
If you choose to use the pattern lock feature, the pattern should not be simple. Instead, we propose a complex model that would be difficult for humans to predict. Just don’t make it so hard you’ll have trouble remembering.
You will need to enter your pattern twice before it sticks.
How to Set PIN
If you don’t want to have to remember a pattern, and most of you don’t, you can make things a little easier for yourself. Located in the same section, it allows you to create a series of numbers to unlock your phone.
Samsung requires you to use at least four numbers and the PIN cannot contain more than 16 digits. We do not recommend using 16 digits unless you have an impressive memory recall. Once you have decided on a set of numbers, enter them and the device will save them as your PIN.
How to Set Password
If numbers aren’t your thing, you can also set a passcode to lock your Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge. It is found in the section that we have mentioned several times.
A password differs from a PIN in that it allows you to use letters and characters. Your password must contain at least four characters, including one letter. It cannot be more than 16 characters. Again, you’ll want to find a median between simple and complex. It shouldn’t be easy to guess and it shouldn’t be impossible to figure out every time you want to unlock your phone.
Enter your passcode when prompted, re-enter to confirm and your Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge will now be protected with a passcode.

You can switch between fingerprint, PIN, password and pattern at any time. . While the device will remember your fingerprints, it will not remember your PIN, password or pattern. You will need to enter them each time you switch.
