Believe it or not, many users want an automatic shutdown option in Windows 10, but unfortunately this feature has not been added yet. All too often, Windows users forget to turn off their computers, or you could say we’re too lazy to do it. This can cause some issues such as battery draining or heating up. Therefore, in this article, we will share a simple way that allows you to schedule automatic shutdown in Windows 10. You can schedule closure according to your preferred time, event and much more. So without further delay, let’s proceed and learn the steps in detail.

Since Windows does not have a native setting for the auto-shutdown schedule, we will use the built-in Task Scheduler application to accomplish this task. That’s why we’ve already covered the Task Scheduler basics in a separate tutorial, so if you’re not familiar with this app, check it out. In this article, I’ll explain the steps from scratch, so if you’re completely new to task scheduling, don’t worry. Now, without any delay, let’s get started.

1. Press the Windows key once and Type “Task Scheduler” in the search box. Now, click on the first result.

2. Next, Click “Create Basic Task” located in the right pane.

3. After that, give your task a name and click “Next”. For example, I entered “Auto Power Off”.

4. In the next window, Choose “Daily” if you want the shutdown to happen once every day. You are free to choose other options according to your preference.

5. After that, enter the time and date the task will be active. As you can see, I’ve scheduled it to auto-off at 11 am every night, starting today. Keep in mind, the time domain only supports 24-hour format so only enter your data in this specific format.

6. On the Action tab, Select “Start a program” and click “Next”.

7. Now, Paste shutdown.exe In the Program/Script area and /s /f /t 60 In the Add argument field. Basically, /s stands for shutdown, /f stands for force-closing applications, and /t stands for timeout limited to 60 seconds. This means that the computer will shut down at 11 am every night after a 60 second timeout. You can change the timeout period by changing the number of seconds.

8. Now, you’re almost done. Check all the details of your task and click the “Finish” button.

9. If you want test if the auto-shutdown task works as intendedClick it, click “Task Scheduler Library” and right-click “Auto Shutdown”. Now, click “Run”. If you configured everything correctly, your computer will shut down in 60 seconds.
