How to Save Image from Magic Select Tool in Paint 3D

The Magic Select tool is an interesting addition to Paint 3D, an upgraded version of traditional MS Paint. With this tool, you can remove the background of an image or extract some of it in PNG format. However, there is no direct way to save the extracted PNG image. In this article, we will tell you how to save the extracted image using the Magic Select tool in Paint 3D.

The PNG file extracted from Magic Select can be used as a sticker or added to another image in Paint 3D or any other application. But for this you will need to save the image.

There are four ways to save the extracted image with Magic Select in Windows. Let’s check them out. But first we will tell you how to use the Magic Select tool in Paint 3D.

How to Use Magic Select in Paint 3D

For this, follow these steps:

Stage 1: Launch Paint 3D and open your image in it.

Step 2: Click on the Magic Selection tool at the top.

Stage 3: You will see a new selection of borders around your image. Select the part of the image you want to extract using the available selection points. Click Next on the right.

Step 4: Change the selection using the available tools on the right. Finally, click Done.

Your extracted image is ready. You will see a selection box around it. Now, follow one of the methods mentioned below to save.

Saving the Extracted Image Using Magic Select in Paint 3D

Let’s check out four methods to save the picture.

Method 1: Disable Canvas

One of the simplest ways to save the image you extracted from the Magic Select tool is to disable it in Paint 3D after removing your canvas. To do this, follow these steps:

Stage 1: When you extract the image, drag it outside of the original background image.

Step 2: Go to the Canvas tab at the top. Disable the toggle next to Show canvas.

Stage 3: You will see that the background image will disappear. Now center your extracted image.

Step 4: Click on Top Menu.

Step 5: Click Save as and choose Image as the file format.

Step 6: Under the Save as type drop-down box, select PNG.

Step 7: Check the box next to Transparency. Ensuring transparency is very important. Otherwise, your image will have a background color. Finally, click Save.

After saving, you can add this image on top of another image, as you can see in the screenshot below.

Method 2: Erase Background

Another way is to delete all or part of the background and then add transparency. Here are the steps.

Stage 1: Drag the extracted image away from its original position. You can keep it in the background image or out of it.

Step 2: Select the entire background using the Selection tool at the top.

Stage 3: Press the Delete button on your keyboard. The background will turn white.

Step 4: Drag the extracted image into the white area. Any part outside of this white background will be cropped.

Step 5: Now click on Menu at the top as you did in the previous method. Then choose Save as and choose Image.

Step 6: Select PNG from the drop-down box under Save as type. Also, check the box next to Transparency. Press Save.

Method 3: Paste Image Directly Into Another Image

In this method we will not save the image extracted from Magic Select. Instead, we’ll copy it and paste it into the image where needed.

Here are the steps:

Stage 1: Remove part of the image using the Magic Selection tool. Next, right-click on the extracted portion and choose Copy from the menu.

Step 2: Now, go to Menu at the top and select Open. Go to the picture you want to paste the old picture and open it.

Stage 3: Once the image opens, right-click on it and press Paste. You can even use the Ctrl + V keyboard shortcut.

Step 4: Save the desired image as normal using Menu > Save as.

Method 4: Create a Sticker

Instead of copying and pasting the image, we will create a sticker from the image made with the Magic Select tool. Then add it to the last photo.

Here’s how to do it.

Stage 1: Select part of the image using the Magic Selection tool.

Step 2: With the extracted image selected, click Make sticker on the right.

Stage 3: You will be prompted to select the sticker opacity. Change as needed.

Step 4: Click anywhere on the image to create a sticker. You will find it in the Stickers section.

Step 5: Now in Paint 3D, open the picture you want to add this sticker to using Menu > Open.

Step 6: Click the Stickers tab at the top and go to Choose your own sticker.

Step 7: Click on the remove from the list to add it to a new photo. Finally, save the image.

Tips for Better Results

Be sure to add transparency when saving your image. This is really important. You can also change the size of the extracted image at any time according to your needs using the selection boxes. You can even change the canvas size. Once you’ve mastered extracting images using Paint 3D, you won’t need any third-party apps to repeat the same for you.
