How to Run 2 Apps Simultaneously on LG G4

The new LG G4 is packed with advanced features to complement its large, bright 5.5-inch display and stunning camera. One of these features that many users are not aware of is the Dual Window mode, which allows you to run two applications at the same time. Below we’ll explain how to use this feature on the G4.

LG has a feature that allows users to have two apps on the screen at the same time, just like Samsung’s Multi Window Mode. This feature allows owners to choose from over 15 apps, change them while in use, and even resize the window so that certain apps have more screen space than others. This is extremely useful for power users and those who want to use all that 5.5 inch screen space for multitasking. Below is a quick video explaining how to use LG G4 Dual Window mode.

If you want to get directions in Google Maps while simultaneously opening Hangouts (or the Messages app) to read news from your web browser or even contact a friend while watching a YouTube video, Dual Window makes it easy and you’ve got it covered here.

The LG G4 has a great camera, pretty genuine leather construction materials on the back, and tons of improvements to Android 5.1 Lollipop that make the phone a great device and easy to use. Check out our full LG G4 Review for more details, then follow the instructions and video below.

Dual Window mode makes multitasking easy and keeps two apps open and accessible at the same time, allowing power users to do more in less time. Not only that, each window can be quickly resized, making one larger than the other as needed, or quickly replacing YouTube with Gmail if you need to read and reply to a message without stopping what you’re already doing.

There are many options with Dual Window Mode on the LG G4, but unfortunately not as many as Samsung offers. Samsung’s Multi-Window Mode works with a wide variety of apps, while LG’s app has only a few supported apps or most of Google’s apps that come pre-installed on the phone. That being said, most of the apps you’ll actually be using this with, but we’d be lying if we said we didn’t want Netflix and a few other video apps to be able to use Dual Window mode. With all that said, here’s how to do it.

Instructions

With the LG G3, users can long press the back button and Dual Window mode pops up, but this year it doesn’t look like that anymore. So if you’re coming from the G3, you’ll need to know how it works, and those who just got the LG G4 will be happy to learn that this trick can be done with just a few seconds and two taps on the screen. . Below is a video on how to do it, as well as a full instruction and screenshot.

Below the G4 screen are three buttons out of the box. A circle for home, a square with a back arrow and a “recent apps” or multitasking button. This is what you want to print. Tapping the square shows all your currently open and running apps. When you tap on the square and you see all your recent apps, there is a button on the bottom right that says “” and you just have to select it.

G4-double window

Once selected, a window will pop up with arrows pointing up or down telling you to long-press the icon of the app you selected and drag it to the top or bottom of the screen. Swipe Gmail to the top and another preferred app to the bottom. Any application can be at the top or the bottom, so it all depends on the needs of the users.

Go ahead and swipe one app up and another app down and you’re done. Now both apps are running at the same time. Click the light blue circle arrow or press the square to instantly resize apps and go back to the recent apps menu and select “dual window” again to select from the list and replace one app with another. I’ve used it to browse the web, watch YouTube videos for music, or reply to emails over the weekend while watching the latest episode of The Philip Defranco Show on YouTube.

G4 dual mode

As shown above, we now run two apps simultaneously on the LG G4. With its large 5.5-inch screen and powerful 6-core processor, the phone can handle both with ease and there is no slowdown. Web browsing is still smooth, as is zooming to text, and YouTube videos play smoothly too. It’s all pretty neat and works great.

Unfortunately, third-party apps like Netflix, Sling TV, or even text messaging apps like Textra are not supported. Only some of LG’s default apps and Google’s own apps support it, but more may come in the near future.

It’s not something I use often in everyday life, but it’s just one of many great app and software tricks on the LG G4. This, along with the Q-Remote control app, Quick Note for taking notes, and more, provides a simple yet powerful experience for owners.
