Chances are, most of the gifts you bought for Christmas this year were probably ordered from Amazon.com. Plus, you’ll usually get at least one gift that needs to be returned, whether it’s the wrong size or double gifts from different people. But returning a gift to Amazon is a little different than returning it to an actual store.
Again, the process is equally painless, and Amazon lets you return something without having to be the one to order it in the first place. We’ll show you how to return a gift to Amazon and prove that the process isn’t as painful as you might think at first.
Get Order Number
You’ll want to go to the correct webpage for Amazon returns first. Specifically, you want to go to Amazon. Online Returns Center and click on it.
You will then be asked for the order number. If the gift giver didn’t include the packing slip with your gift, you should ask them for the order number. If you think that returning the gift will offend them and you prefer not to ask for the number, contact Amazon directly here they will ask you for a description of the item to find the name, email address, phone number and order number of the person who gifted the item.
Once you have the 17 digit order number, enter it in the text box and click when done.
A list of items included in the order will appear and you will select the items you want to return and enter the quantity if you purchased more than one unit. Next, select a reason for the rollback from the drop-down provided and click Continue when you’re done.
On the next page you choose the type of refund, but since it’s a gift and you’re not the one who ordered the item, you can only get a standard refund. Click .
Pack and Ship
The next page is where you will select your preferred return shipping method. Unfortunately, if the return is not due to a fault of Amazon, return shipping costs will be deducted from the return, so you cannot get a full refund. Click after choosing a shipping method.
On the next page, click on it. Be sure to print the return shipping label along with the return authorization slip provided on the next page. Put the plug inside the package and stick the shipping label on the outside of the box.
When Amazon receives your return, they will process your refund as an Amazon Gift Card and unfortunately you will not be eligible for exchanges or instant refunds with other payment methods.
