How to Reset Your Galaxy S7 Before Selling It

The first thing you should do is back up all your information. If you already have a new phone, this process is extremely easy. Especially if you have a new Galaxy, Samsung’s SmartSwitch app does it all for you. Get it from our links below. Then, when you’re done, you can wipe your entire phone in under 5 minutes and be ready to sell.

If you already have a new phone, use the SmartSwitch app to transfer almost anything to it. Open the Samsung app on both phones, connect the two with a USB cable as shown in the onscreen instructions and go. It does everything for you and only takes a few minutes.

If you don’t have a new phone yet, you can use the PC or Mac version to back up your entire phone to a computer. So everything is ready for later. We’ve prepared a guide on backing up your information and erasing your old Galaxy phone in our link above. Click this and follow the instructions.

Some people may want to open apps and services or accounts like Samsung and LastPass and then log out. But factory data reset (our next instructions) erases everything and everything. So logging out is not necessary.

After your data has been backed up and saved everything and signed out of apps, you can wipe the entire phone. Just like reformatting a hard drive on a computer, Android phones have something known as a “Factory Data Reset”. Only the process is really simple.

This next step deletes it and returns it to its original factory state. Basically, whatever the day you get it.

You will now see a list of every app, service or account active on the device. Scroll down and tap the blue button and you’re done. The Galaxy S7 will shut down, enter maintenance mode and wipe everything, then reboot in a few minutes. Ignore the strange texts and things you see on the screen.

Now your Galaxy S7 is like new again, at least on the software side. It will start over and be the same as the day you got it. It asks you to complete the setup, sign in to a Google account, and do all that. You don’t need to do anything from here. We’re all done.
