Holidays are just around the corner. And with a pandemic plaguing the US, you’ll likely be doing at least some of your shopping online. If you’re worried about cards and packages lost in the mail, don’t worry – tracking your mail and reporting missing items is easy and can be done entirely online.
Before reporting a package is missing, you’ll want to make sure you use the carrier’s online tracking service to check its location – your item may still be on its way. (This is why it’s a good idea to use tracking on any important mail.) But if it’s been a long time since your package should have arrived and you still don’t have it, follow the steps below.

Report a missing package to the USPS
- First, check if your package has a tracking number. You should be able to find it on your post office receipt, shipping confirmation email, or underside of your tracking tag. enter this number USPS tracking site to see where your package is
- If that doesn’t help, a online help request form using the tracking number of your package. The USPS will forward this to your local post office.
- If you have not received your package within seven business days of submitting your assistance request form, a missing mail search. You will need the mailing addresses of the sender and recipient, the size and type of shipping container, a description of the contents, a tracking number or other identifying information on your mailing receipt, and any images that can help identify your item. The USPS will forward this to your local post office.

Report a missing package to FedEx
- First, enter your FedEx tracking ID on FedEx’s website to see where your package is located.
- If that doesn’t work, make a request on FedEx’s website. You’ll need photos or other documents that can help identify your package, along with your tracking number.

Report a missing package to UPS
- First, enter your UPS tracking ID at: UPS’s website.
- If that doesn’t help, Email UPS about your lost package or contact customer service.
- If your package is not delivered 24 hours after the expected delivery date and time, to sue on the UPS website.
