Motorola has several watch straps for its Moto 360 smartwatch. Here’s how to change Moto 360 watch bands if you want a different look.
While you can choose which color watch band you want for your Moto 360 with Moto Maker, you can then decide you want to change things up a bit and get a new look. Or you’re wearing brown shoes and you might want a matching brown watch strap. Changing the watch straps on your Moto 360 allows you to do just that.
Although you cannot change the color of the Moto 360 watch case, you can at least change the color of the watch band. Technically, the Moto 360 can accept any 22mm watch band, but it’s a bit proprietary in the sense that some watch bands may not fit in the slots, so it’s a good idea to go ahead and buy an official Moto 360 watch band. or carefully look for watch straps made to fit your Moto 360.
In any case, when you get a new watch band, here’s how to replace your existing Moto 360 watch band with a new one.
before you start
Before you get your hands dirty, there are a few things you’ll want to do.
It’s best to turn your Moto 360 off so you don’t accidentally activate the screen and touch something that could mess things up. It’s also a good idea to place a cloth under the watch with the screen facing down – you don’t want the screen to be scratched.
You will also need a small flat screwdriver, also known as a precision screwdriver. Ideally, you want a spring bar jeweler’s tool that you can craft. Buy for less than $10however, you most likely have a precision screwdriver in place that you can use instead.
Replacing Moto 360 Watch Bands
The process of replacing your Moto 360 watch band is quite simple and works exactly like any other traditional watch.
There is a spring loaded bar fed from the end of the watch band and attached to the watch case. To remove a watch band, simply take your jeweler’s tool or screwdriver and insert it between the watch band and the watch case so you can compress the spring on the bar and lift to remove the watch band.
The video above shows you how the process is done visually. It may take a few tries to get it in the end, but it’s pretty easy once you get used to it.
Now, remove the stick from the watch band you removed and attach it to the new watch band as in the old watch, making sure that the ends of the bar come out evenly from both sides.
From there, slide one end of the watch band into place in the watch case and then tighten it using your tool or screwdriver while simultaneously pushing the other end of the bar into the watch case. It slides in and now all you have to do is push it all the way in until you hear it click into place.
Do this for the other end of the watch band and you will now have a completely new look for your Moto 360. Make sure you wear the watch strap correctly, not backwards. A good way to tell if your watch strap is fitted correctly is to see if the buckled end of the watch band is the opposite side of the Moto 360’s “flat tire”, also known as the black section where the screen is cut.
As mentioned earlier, any 22mm watch strap should technically work, but sometimes it may not work if it’s too thick. If you want to get a third-party watch band, at least make sure it’s listed as Moto 360 compatible. Finding third-party Moto 360 watch bands shouldn’t be too difficult as there is a large community around this smartwatch.
