On the expected streak, Apple doubled down on security and privacy in iOS 13. One of my favorite features in the latest iteration of iOS is the option to delete geotags from images. The process has now become a bit simpler as there was no way to delete location metadata from photos before. Given the security threats and how easily malicious people can exploit geotags, this seems like a step in the right direction. So, if you want to share some of your favorite shots without geotags on social media or any other platform but are unsure how to remove location data from photos and videos in iOS 13 or iPadOS 13, this quick guide is for you.
How to Share Photos and Videos Without Geotags on iPhone and iPad
For the unfamiliar, images and clips captured on iPhone or iPad contain a lot of information, including where they were taken. This information is called metadata. Using photos with geolocation coordinates tagged in EXIF data, anyone can find out where the photos were taken (this can provide enough clues about where you are). Security aside, metadata plays a vital role in organizing your photo library so that you can easily access specific images taken in a specific place or on a specific date/month/year. With that, let’s find the right way to share photos and videos without location data on iPhone and iPad!
- Start Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Now select the photo/photos or video/videos you want to share. When sharing a single image, select it and then tap the share button. If you are sharing more than one image, tap on it. choose in the upper right corner and then select the ones you want to share. After that, make sure to tap on it. To share button.
3. On the share sheet, tap . “Options” located right next to the location where your image was taken.
4. Turn off the switch next to it. Location and then tap on Completed top right to confirm.
Note: On this screen, you should see an option called All Photos Data This allows you to share your photos in original quality along with edit history and metadata via AirDrop. But you need to keep the Location option enabled for it to work.
