How to Remove Audio from Video on Any Device

Since the birth of smartphones, capturing and sharing videos has become a common phenomenon, and why not? Smartphone cameras are improving with each generation, and the best of them allow you to record video in 4K resolution. However, recording video has one minor downside, and that’s the audio that comes with it. The audio captured with your smartphone is so bad, there are no two ways. Add this to the fact that sometimes you can catch an audio track you don’t want, and it can be really embarrassing. As a general rule, it’s best to remove the original sound unless it’s really needed. So, if your voice is preventing you from showing your videos to the world, Here’s how to remove audio from video on any device.

Remove Audio from Video File

The process of removing audio from any video file will depend on the device or operating system you are using. Also, you can use multiple methods on the same operating system. For this article, we’ll cover one method for macOS, iOS, Android, and Windows operating systems. I chose the methods based on their simplicity and the type of software required. So let’s get started, shall we?

  • Remove Audio from Video File on macOS

One thing I really like about Apple’s operating system is that it comes with some really cool first-party software that lets you get things done right out of the box with your Mac. The most popular and most used are native Mail app, Notes App, all iWork Suite etc. Similarly, Apple includes basic video editing software that comes preinstalled with your Mac. iMovie. While iMovie can’t compete with the featured video editors out there, it’s enough to do some basic editing like removing audio from the video. So let’s see how we can do this.

1. Launch iMovie and import your video by clicking the import button and then select your video.

2. Right click (control+click)in the imported video and select the entire clip.

3. Now, drag and drop video edit timeline (see image).

4. Right-click on the timeline video and Choose “Split Audio”.

5. You will now be able to see that the audio part is separated from the video. Just click on the audio file to select it and then press the delete key on your keyboard to delete the sound.

6. After deleting the sound Command+E combination to export your video. Depending on the size of your video, it may take some time to export.

7. To do this, you still need to save this video, click the share button located in the upper right corner of the application. Here, click on file and then follow the steps to save your video.

  • Remove Audio from Video File in Windows

You can use any free video editing software to get the job done, like iMovie on macOS. However, for today’s tutorial we will be using software that is not only free, but likely that many of you already have. If the name of the software VLC media player. If you somehow don’t already have it, click the link to download it.

1. Launch the VLC app and Click on “Media” in the upper left corner. Click “Convert/Save” in the pop-up menu that appears.

2. Now add the video you want to unmute as follows: Click the “Add…” button and then click the Convert/Save button.

3. Here, Click on the button marked in the picture.

4. Now, select the “Audio codec” option and Uncheck the “Audio” subheading. This will remove the audio from the video. Click save now.

5. On this page, just select the file destination and click the “Start” button. The video will be converted and saved to the location you specified.

  • Remove Audio from Video File on Android

Android makes it really easy for you to extract audio from videos. It will only take you a few steps to do this, so let’s do it.

1. install Timbre Application from Play Store. Start the application and then go to the video section and tap the “Mute” button. This will automatically take you to your Gallery app. Tap the video to select it here.

2. As soon as you tap the video, the app will import it into the app. Now, to mute the video, tap the mute button marked in the picture. You will see a pop-up card saying the sound will be removed. Hit save since that’s what we want to do.

3. Press Save, the app will give you the option to open the file, tap Yes to do so. If you don’t want to do this now, simply tap No. You can find the recorded video in your main gallery app.

  • Remove Audio from Video File on iOS

Removing audio from video on iOS is as simple as on Android. Unfortunately, Timbre is not available for iPhone so we will have to use a different app to get the result we want.

1. Install Mute Video from the App Store and launch the app. You will see that the app preloads all your content available on the phone.

2. Select the video you want to mute by tapping on it. The app will show you a small preview of the video. To start editing, press the “Select” button located in the upper right corner.

3. In the editing window, look at the volume slider located at the bottom of the screen. Swipe to the far left to remove the sound and then hit the Export button in the upper right corner.

4. The video will be processed and then you will have the option to save the video. Click the “Save Video” button to save the video to your iPhone’s storage..

  • Remove Audio from Online Video File

If you don’t want to go through that many steps to install apps and remove audio from your videos, there is a simple way to do it. But in this process you are limited to 500 MB file size and you will need an internet connection. The steps are pretty simple, so let’s go over it quickly.

  1. visit AudioRemover website by clicking this connection. Here, Click the browse button and select your video fileand then hit install.

2. After the video is uploaded, the website will automatically remove the sound and provides you with a download link for the rendered video. Click the download link to download your video which now does not contain any sound.

As you can see, this is the simplest operation. However, you will need a stable internet connection for this to work. Moreover, you will have to wait while the video file is uploaded and downloaded. There are other online services like this one that can get the job done, but none as simple as what AudioRemover does.
