Our smartphone has become our companion for working, entertaining and informing us. We surf the Internet, send emails, watch videos, share photos on social networks, in short, we do almost everything with our smartphone.
The problem is that we don’t always consume in the same way. In other words, we may have exceeded the data limit in our package without realizing it. And as long as you don’t get the wallet in your hands, the flow dwindles until the next month.
To avoid this, you can control your data consumption and reduce it with a few tips and tricks. here it is Here is our tutorial to reduce your data consumption on Android.
1 – Compress web pages in Chrome
Many of you are using Google Chrome on Android and the browser has a feature to offer a native data saver that will compress the consulted web pages on Google servers before displaying them on your mobile phone. 2 – Restrict background data usage
This isn’t great news for experts, but for non-experts, know that many apps keep syncing their data in the background when you’re not using your smartphone.
The most common ones include social networks, mailboxes, your web browser, weather, Play Store or Google Photos. A simple manipulation will allow you to restrict the use of background data for each application. For him:
- enter inside Settings
- enter later Data usage : at the bottom you will see a list of applications
- Select each application and “Limit background data”
Your apps sync only when you’re connected to WiFi, thus reducing your data consumption.
3 – Only allow app updates over WiFi
Apps are good, but sometimes we want them to take second place, and even more so if whistling when we get an update notification allows us to save data.
An app update would undoubtedly bring a plus, but it’s in no hurry to do it either. You can very well wait until you get home to update over WiFi. Also, some are very heavy, require a WiFi connection.
The rest of the time, updates will be performed automatically even on 3G or 4G, which can quickly drain your data envelope. Here’s how to avoid this:
- go inside game store
- In the menu go to: Settings
- then tap Automatic app updates
- A window will appear, then “Automatically update apps over WiFi only”
4 – Choose apps that work offline
It seems obvious, but not everyone thinks about it. By taking advantage of home or office WiFi connection, you can use many apps in offline mode. Spotify, Deezer etc. We offer these parameters, also on Youtube.
But nothing stops you from searching for apps by theme either. For example, among GPS, Nokia Here is an excellent alternative to Google Maps (which consumes a lot of data). Here Maps does not consume anything, as the maps are downloaded to your smartphone.

5 – Reduce the quality of audio and video content
The smartphone is a real multimedia tool for many users. Thus, watching videos or listening to streaming music have become common uses. Be it Spotify, Deezer and others or YouTube, online multimedia content makes you consume a lot of data.
The developers clearly thought about this, and therefore, in addition to offline modes, they offered the possibility to adjust several parameters to reduce the quality of the content, and therefore data consumption. Each app has its own way, we took the example of Spotify and Youtube to explore in pictures.
Netflix did the same. Indeed, Netflix recently introduced the option to save data on your mobile, so we got a bitrate of 600 kilobits per second, more than enough to watch this content accurately on a smartphone.
6 – Replace Google Chrome with Opera Mini
The default browser on Android smartphones is Google Chrome. The problem with any browser is that it consumes a lot of data. But nothing prevents you from choosing another browser. That’s why Opera Mini is arguably the best web browser for Android that reduces data consumption.
To consume less data, the data is actually processed by Opera Software through a proxy. Images and other data are compressed and adapted to the screen format. It’s a great way to save a few MBs. Also Opera Mini is free, download it here:
7 – Disable syncing of unnecessary accounts
Your various email accounts such as apps, social networks or other specific online services are automatically synced in the background. Obviously, automatic updating is very practical but not necessarily necessary in some cases.
The good news is you will be able to manually sync your accounts and save data on your plan. To do this, simply follow these instructions:
- enter inside Settings
- Later on accounts
- Tap on the top right and uncheck the box “Automatic data synchronization”
8 – Cut off data when not in use
It sounds obvious, but not everyone knows (or makes the effort) to turn off their mobile internet connection when not using the phone. This will prevent apps like emails or Facebook notifications from syncing in the background, for example, but this will revert as soon as you re-enable DATA when you have your smartphone. It’s a small manipulation that can make you consume less data.
