How to Record Screen on Galaxy S10, S10 Plus and S10e

With One UI, Samsung has made some really big (and really good) strides in making the Android interface so much better than in the past, and while One UI offers a bunch of great features, there’s one particular thing that bothers me is the fact that you can’t record your phone’s screen as effortlessly as you might expect.

There Is Actually A Screen Recorder, But You Can’t Really Use It

So, when you launch a game on your One UI powered smartphone, the navigation bar has a neat little Game Tools icon which, among other things, allows you to record your gameplay along with the built-in sounds, and that’s pretty cool. However, there is no way to use this screen recorder in another app or as a standalone app, and that’s pretty crappy. Fortunately, there is a way. A little.

Use Screen Recorder Outside of Games in a Single Interface

If you’re worried about not being able to use the built-in screen recorder in places other than games, don’t worry. I have some kind of solution. You can also use screen recorder in other apps like this:

Note: I’ve tested this on the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+, but I’m pretty sure it will work on any One UI supported phone.

  • Hungry ‘game launcher‘ app on your smartphone and tap the three dots menu button.

  • Tap on ‘Add Application‘ and add the apps you want to screen record. I am attaching the Beebom app (Free).

add app beebom app

  • Now only Launch the Beebom app (From Game Launcher, even app drawer) and you will see the ‘Game Tools’ icon in the navigation bar.

start app tap game tools icon

  • Tap this icon and then tap on it. ‘Record.’

This will start recording your entire screen. However, be aware that you may need to manually enable the system audio recording features or even change the resolution. You can do this like this:

  • Launch any game or app you have added to Game Launcher and ‘Game Tools‘ icon.

  • In the overlay that opens, tap the Settings icon and then tap . ‘Record.’

tap on the settings log

  • Now, change From ‘Audio Source’ to ‘Game’ and also set the resolution to your preferred value.

change settings resolution

That’s it, now you can use the record button in any application added to Game Launcher and record the screen with the built-in sound on your phone. Pretty clean.

However, there is a caveat. Since the recorder can only be used by apps added to Game Launcher, The recording will stop automatically as soon as you exit the application.. It will survive though, so don’t worry.

Use One UI Screen Recorder

So far, this is the only way to use the built-in screen recorder in regular apps. I even tried using Nova Launcher events but that didn’t work for me. I’ll definitely continue to find a better way to do this, and if you know of any way to use the built-in screen recorder in apps other than games, let me know by leaving a comment below and I’ll be sure to check it out.
