Things to Know About the Recall Feature in WhatApp

You may have already learned how the ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature works, but there are a few other signs to keep in mind before trying to send and recall any messages:

1. WhatsApp does not give you complete freedom to delete messages for everyone at any time. you just have Take action 7 minutes after sending the message and select Delete For Everyone. choice. Once that time period is up, you can no longer recall sent messages.

2. The most important thing is ‘Delete for Everyone’ it only works when the buyer is using the latest version WhatsApp that supports the feature in question.

3. Message recall feature won’t work for text messages only but it’s also said to be compatible with images, GIFs, voice memos, contact cards, location, documents, status replies, and more. Also, messages work in both group chats and individual chats. There is currently no support for recalling quoted messages. =

4. Delete For All action it also makes message notifications disappear. You don’t have to worry about recipients reading your texts, even in notifications. They will be replaced with the same ‘This message has been deleted’ tag.

5. Message recall feature cannot be used for messages sent in broadcast lists.

6. Message recall feature is available for iOS, Android and Windows users. that means you Recall messages sent to Symbian phones and BlackBerry phones does not workso you have to be careful not to accidentally message them.

Telegram, WhatsApp’s fiercest competitor, has had the recall feature for months, but its implementation is a bit different. When you delete messages sent to your recipient in Telegram, all selected messages disappear from the conversation. The same does not apply to WhatsApp as you read above.

Personally, I’m not a big fan of the Telegram app as it leaves no traces of messages sent in the chat window for both the sender and receiver. I believe it is important to replace sent messages with the “deleted message” label, as it at least assures the recipient that some message(s) has been sent to them. This is not possible in Telegram due to its heavy focus on user privacy.
