Beyond the visual pleasure, there’s a lot to love about dark mode. For one, it not only protects your eyes from strain, but also saves plenty of power so your device can last longer. While macOS has the long-loved dark theme (since the days of macOS Mojave), unlike its iOS counterpart, it lacks the option to let users quickly switch between dark and light mode on Mac. There is a hack you can use to quickly switch between modes, though. Here’s a quick summary to add a light/dark mode switch to your macOS device if you want to try it out.
How to Add a Light/Dark Mode Switch on Mac
So How Does This Cheat Work?
If you’re wondering how this hack works, let me clear your doubts in advance. First of all, it requires Apple’s Automator, which is a great tool to increase productivity on Mac. So you don’t need to install any third-party software or save money to switch between dark and light mode on macOS. Is there a hidden catch? Not at all. All you have to do is install it perfectly by following a few steps. Once the installation is finished, it works as expected – as long as you know how to double-click an icon!
1. Start automatizer application on your Mac. You can use Spotlight to find it quickly.
2. Now, Application option as a type to create a new document. Next, click To choose.
3. Next, select the Library Movements section in the sidebar.
Next up, search for: “Change System View”. When it appears, drag it to the Automator workflow on the right.
5. As you can see, the “Change System View” option is named. “Change Lighter/Darken”. Time to save Automator app as “Switch between Light/Dark.app” wherever you want such as application folder, documents folder or even desktop.
For a little more convenience, I’m going bring the key to the desktop. When you’re done, exit the app.
