How to Protect Your iOS 8 Jailbreak

The iOS 8 jailbreak has been around for about a month, but even if you’ve already jailbroken your iPhone or iPad, there’s still a reason to keep that jailbreak and make sure you don’t lose it.

Thanks to Apple’s latest iOS 8.1.1 update, Pangu’s iOS 8 jailbreak won’t work with this version, and since Apple tries its best to update users to the latest versions of iOS, doing so with your jailbroken device will not work with your jailbroken device. It will cause you to lose.

Obviously, that can’t happen, and while we’re sure iOS 8.1. As this latest update is extremely minor for those with newer iOS devices.

iOS 8.1.1 basically just fixes a few bugs and improves the performance of the older iPhone 4s and iPad 2, the two oldest devices that support iOS 8. How did they both suffer in terms of performance when moving from iOS 7 to iOS 8?

For those with newer iPhones or iPads, the iOS 8.1.

However, if you have jailbroken or are planning to jailbreak your device soon, here is how to protect your iPhone or iPad from updating to iOS 8.1.

Say No to iTunes

If you’re already jailbroken, the iOS 8 jailbreak is set to prevent your device from checking for a newer iOS update. Normally, you can go to Settings > General > Software Update and download the latest version over-the-air, but Pangu iOS 8 jailbreak prevents users from doing so on their jailbroken device, so you’re safe there.

However, if you plug your iPhone or iPad into your computer and launch iTunes, you will most likely see a pop-up window telling you that there is a newer version of iOS and you need to install it.

Here you use the skills you learned when you were younger when your parents taught you to say “no” to drugs and other bad things, only this time they apply to iTunes.

Don’t Take Risk

Since you can’t basically erase your iPhone or iPad and restore it to the version of iOS you’re using, Apple forces you to update to the latest version of iOS when you want to restore it. This may not seem like a huge deal, but one wrong move can put your iOS device in a boot loop or otherwise soft-brick and force you to restore it to get it working again. So you will have to update to iOS 8.1.1 and you will lose your jailbreak.

That’s why it’s important not to take risks with certain things on your iPhone or iPad. Don’t open iFile and start messing with system files as it’s a good way to mess things up on your device.

A great jailbreak app to install is called iLEX RAT. If your jailbroken iPhone or iPad is in trouble, you can use this app to restore your iPhone to a new state while keeping the jailbreak intact. Semi-Restore is another jailbreak tweak that does that too.

“Why don’t you just go in and choose?” You may be asking. However, doing this on a jailbroken iPhone or iPad will cause a boot loop where you have to do a hard reboot to get back to the lock screen. The only way to factory reset your iPhone while leaving the jailbreak intact is to use proprietary software like iLEX RAT or Semi-Restore.
