What You Need to Play Minecraft Bedrock in Quest 2
1. Oculus Link Setup and Pairing
If you’ve followed our previous guide on how to play Steam games in Quest 2, you already know about Oculus Link. Link, Meta’s official software for playing PC games in Quest 2, is very useful. We will be using Oculus Link to essentially stream Minecraft to our PC. So be sure to follow the guide above and pair your Quest 2 with it before continuing.
2. Installed Copy of Minecraft Bedrock
Now it’s natural to want the actual game installed on your computer before you start. So go ahead and install Minecraft Bedrock/Minecraft for Windows on your PC and run it normally at least once. You can search for Minecraft for Windows in the Microsoft Store or in your Xbox Game Pass library.
How to Enable Unknown Sources on Oculus Link
Even though Minecraft Bedrock has official VR support, we will take this extra step to ensure the game launches smoothly. But don’t worry as this doesn’t put your Quest 2 at any risk. Assuming you already have Oculus Link installed, follow the steps below to allow Minecraft to pass.
1. Open the Oculus Link app on your PC.
2. Locate and click the icon from the left sidebar. Settings button.
3. Click the General tab to open the settings.
4. Unknown sources Press the button and you’re done.
And that’s it! As mentioned above, don’t worry about viruses or other issues as Minecraft VR is perfectly safe to use on your Oculus Quest 2.
Creating a Minecraft VR Shortcut
The easiest way to run Minecraft VR in Quest 2 is to create a quick shortcut that will automatically launch the game in VR. However, make sure you have installed Minecraft for Windows before doing this. The process itself is very easy so once done with the requirements make sure you follow through.
1. Right-click on your desktop and click Create a new shortcut under the New menu. A new window will open.
2. The shortcut will ask for the location of the item. Copy and paste the following there and click next.

1. Task 2 Make sure your Guardian limit is set and ready to use. I recommend a fixed limit for maximum movement. However, if you’re doing this with a short cable, sitting is fine too.
2. Open Oculus Link on your PC and make sure your headset is connected to the software. Enable Oculus Link on your Quest 2 if it asks for permission.
3. Dive into Oculus Link from your headset to open its interface.
4. Launch the shortcut we created from the Oculus Link Desktop control or your computer itself.
5. Plug in your headphones and wait patiently for a minute or two, then look around.

As I mentioned earlier, Minecraft Java is the original and more moddable version of Minecraft. But since the Java version doesn’t support VR automatically, we’ll have to go through a few extra steps to get it to work. Let’s start with our requirements.
What You Need to Play Minecraft Java in Quest 2
1. Oculus Link Setup and Pairing
As before, one of the prerequisites for this method is the official Oculus Link software. You will need to play Minecraft Java and import it into Quest 2. See the Steam guide in the previous section to install it.
2. Java Installed
You must have the Java client installed on your computer before you go ahead and install anything else. To break this down, Java is a programming language that will help us run Minecraft Java in VR. However, don’t worry as there is no programming involved here. Go ahead and get it Java (free) and install it.
3. Minecraft Java Installed
You should also install the official Minecraft Java version before installing anything else from the list. It goes without saying that this setup is the most important as we will need the game itself. You can go ahead and get the game from: Microsoft/Minecraft Store ($26.95) or search in your Xbox Game Pass library. So go ahead and install it before continuing.
4. Vivecraft
Vivecraft is a mod that allows Minecraft Java to run easily in VR. This is also an important part of the process so make sure you download and install it before you start. You can go ahead and get the latest mod from Vivecraft at: Vivecraft Downloads (free) page.
I will use Vivecraft 1.17.X version for this. Make sure to select the VR Installer from the Github repository you are directed to. After downloading, select the maximum RAM allocation to avoid lag and then click on it. To organise. Remember to install Java from the above point first, otherwise the installation will fail.
5. Steam and SteamVR

7. When prompted to select the version, select the Vivecraft we installed. Faucet ‘Play’ to start.
