How to Pin a Website in Windows 8

Just like Windows Phone, Microsoft’s Windows 8 The OS aims to combine notifications, shortcuts and even favorite features that owners already love on the colorful Start Screen. In short, this means that users always have the most up-to-date information on what’s going on in their lives and can quickly navigate to the websites and apps they need.

In my opinion, what most regular users will enjoy the most is the ability to pin websites to Windows 8. Instead of searching Internet Explorer and trying to find a favorites button, Windows 8 users simply click on the tile representing one of their favorite sites and they’re instantly there.

Even better are the extras that pinning a website as a live tile can provide. Not only does Microsoft allow website owners to create attractive live tiles that match their sites, apps and creators can post information about new posts directly to a user’s Start Screens.

Here’s how to pin a website in Windows 8 and access your favorite websites quickly and easily.

Go to the Start Screen by pressing the key on your device’s keyboard or by pressing the Windows Key at the bottom of your screen.

Click or tap the icon represented on your Start Screen. In our example it is represented by light blue and white E trim. If you don’t have Internet Explorer pinned to your Start Screen, click or tap the arrow in the lower-left corner of your screen to open a list of all the apps stored on your device. Users with touchscreen devices can place their finger anywhere on the Start Screen and swipe up.

Navigate to the site you want to pin by tapping or clicking on the address bar at the bottom of the app. In our example we will fix Moyens I/O.

Tap or click at the bottom right of your screen between something that looks like a wrench and two sheets of paper.

Now customize how you want the site’s live tile to appear in the popup. By default, Internet Explorer gives it a basic look and name, but you can customize the background of the tile and what it says. When you’ve made all the customizations you want, click or tap. Pin to Start.

Now go back to your Start Screen and your newly pinned app should appear.

That’s it, you have successfully pinned a website to your Start Screen. Like other pinned tiles on your Start Screen, any websites you pin are automatically synced across multiple computers if you’re signed in with a Microsoft Account and have sync turned on (this is by default).
