iOS 8 was released to the public with a handful of new features last month, but with it comes some changes that many users probably don’t like. One of these changes includes how photos are deleted from an iPhone or iPad.
The Photos app in iOS 8 now comes with a folder that fires when a user deletes a photo. The deleted photo is automatically put in the Recently Deleted folder, meaning it isn’t actually deleted from your iPhone or iPad.
To truly delete a photo from your iOS 8 device, you have to delete it twice, which is not convenient.
Many users online express their dissatisfaction some even wonder if it is possible to completely delete the Recently Deleted folder.
It is easy to understand why such a feature is worth having on iOS, as it prevents users from accidentally deleting photos and if they do, they can be easily recovered. It’s essentially like having a Recycle Bin on your iPhone.
Users have 30 days to recover deleted photos from Recently Deleted folder until they are officially permanently deleted.
This is perhaps the best we can tell you; Deleted photos only stay on your iPhone or iPad for 30 days until they are automatically deleted from your device permanently.
While this feature is useful for some iOS users, it can be seen as a nuisance for the majority of iPhone and iPad owners. Also, there is no way to disable the feature and only one option remains for those who want to permanently delete photos from their iOS 8 device every time.
Here’s how to do it.
How to Permanently Delete iOS 8 Photos
Unfortunately, there is no quick shortcut to delete photos on iOS 8 devices without going into the Recently Deleted folder. So, here is how to delete photos if you want them permanently deleted.
When you open the Photos app and tap on the icon in the lower right corner, you will see two folders appear. One is a folder and the other is a folder. The photos you take will automatically appear in the Recently Added folder. If you want to delete a photo, open the Recently Added folder and select the photos you want to delete by tapping in the upper right corner of the screen and then tapping the photos you want to delete.
From there, tap on it at the bottom and confirm the action when the popup appears.
The photos will then be moved to the Recently Deleted folder, so you’ll need to navigate to that folder and essentially redo the deletion you did in the Recently Added folder. Select the photos you want to delete by tapping in the upper right corner of the screen and then the photos you want deleted. Then tap on it in the lower left corner and confirm the action when the popup appears.
These photos will now be permanently deleted from your iOS 8 device with no possibility of getting them back.
Granted, we see the purpose of the Recently Deleted folder in the Photos app, but users don’t get it as an option and disable it if it seems like a pretty big oversight on Apple’s part.
In any case, you can provide Apple feedback on thisand hopefully the company will change this feature in its next major update to iOS 8. By the way, if you want your photos to be permanently deleted, you essentially have to delete them twice.
