The first thing you need is a copy of Taylor Swift 1989 album or just the songs you want. We purchased Blank Space from iTunes for this guide, but you can purchase or download it from any service to use here as long as it’s not locked with DRM.
You will need your computer, iPhone or Android and a WiFi network. You cannot do this with a cable and you have to download the songs or album for this to work. You will also need the Spotify app on your iPhone or iPad.
Open Spotify on your computer and click Local files on the left. It’s under the Your Music area. Be sure to see Taylor Swift here. When we downloaded Blank Space from iTunes, it immediately showed up in these areas.
Make a Playlist in Spotify and add Taylor Swift to it from the native Music option. The easiest way is to click and drag the song into the playlist you want. To get it on your iPhone or Android device, you need to add it to a playlist. Once it’s on your iPhone, you can add it to other playlists. This is only the first step to move music from your computer to iPhone.
Make sure your computer and iPhone or Android are connected to the same WiFi network and you should see iPhone listed under Devices on the left.
Click on the iPhone or device name. If it doesn’t appear, make sure Spotify is open on your device and the desktop Spotify app is open on only one computer. During our experiments, the iPhone was connected to Spotify on another desktop at home, causing a lot of confusion.
The next step is to click the checkmark on the playlist you want to sync. We chose this option with Manually select playlists to sync, so we didn’t fill the iPhone storage with unwanted songs.
In a minute the sync will complete and you will see a green corner banner with a down arrow in the playlist. This means that the synchronization is complete.
Now you can open the playlist on your iPhone and play Taylor Swift on Spotify. Now you can add these songs to any Spotify playlist you want. You should still see the album art, but sometimes the large thumbnail didn’t show up in our tests.
That’s not as nice as being able to listen to Taylor Swift on Spotify without purchasing the album, but it’s the only way you can do that right now.
