To the surprise of everyone in the jailbreak community, an iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak has been released to the public and it also works with the latest iOS 7.1.2 update. However, we will show you how to jailbreak iOS 7.1.2 on your iPhone or iPad.
One thing to be aware of is that this jailbreak comes from an unknown source – a Chinese team called Pangu. In other words, it doesn’t come from the trusted and somewhat official Evad3rs developer team that has been responsible for iOS 7 and iOS 6 jailbreaks for the past two years.
However, this new jailbreak from Pangu has been touted by the jailbreak community as completely legal and safe to install, but this time, there are a few things you need to do differently and jailbreak requires a few more steps. Evasi0n’s process.
Still, this will give you an iOS 7.1.2 jailbreak, so there’s not much to complain about. Without further goodbyes, let’s get started.
Preparation
Before you actually jailbreak your iPhone or iPad, you’ll want to make sure you completely back up all the data on your device, which you can do via iTunes, and we even have a handy guide on how to do that.
Also, it’s best to install a clean version of iOS on your device before jailbreaking it, as you’re much less likely to run into any issues. Also, if you’re not on iOS 7.1.2 yet, you’ll be killing two birds with one stone for this one. You can update to iOS 7.1.2 and install a clean version of iOS by clicking in iTunes. You’ll need to turn off Find My iPhone in Settings on your iPhone or iPad, but after that, follow the instructions and you’ll have a clean version of iOS 7.1.2 in no time.
However, depending on your internet connection speed, iOS 7.1.2 may take up to an hour or two to download, especially if you’ve been on iOS 7.0.X for a few months, so you may need to be patient with Apple downloads. Update.
Once the update is downloaded, it will begin the installation process to install a clean version of iOS 7.1.2 on your iPhone or iPad. This may take a few extra minutes, so again you need to be patient.
Jailbreak iOS 7.1.2
Now comes the fun part. To start pangu.io and download the jailbreaking tool. It works on both Mac and Windows machines.
Once downloaded, double-click the icon to open it (or if you’re on a Mac, double-click the .DMG file and then navigate to the opened image in Finder). From here on out, the process is pretty straightforward, but this isn’t a one-click and you’re done deal, so we’ll guide you through the various steps.
Click the button that says to start the jailbreak process.
You will then immediately be prompted to change a setting on your iPhone or iPad. Specifically, you will need to manually change the date of your iOS device to June 2, 2014. Open the app and go to . Disable it from here and then manually change the date below. We’re not sure why you need to change the date, but it’s all you need to do.
When you set the new date, Pangu should start processing automatically. If not, restart the app and try again.
About halfway through the loading process, the progress bar will freeze. From there, what you need to do is tap on the Pangu icon that appears on your iOS device. The jailbreak installation will continue.
From there, there are no other buttons to click or tap. Your iOS device may reboot several times even after it says the process is complete, so be patient while it does its thing. After that, you will be able to use your iPhone or iPad and it will be successfully jailbroken. It’s a good idea to first open Cydia and have it create the filesystem. Then you’ll be able to go in and install jailbreak tweaks and the like.
If you backed up your iPhone or iPad before this procedure, now is the time to restore it. You will get back all your apps and all your settings. To do this, go to iTunes and click.
Words of Warning
While this jailbreak is completely legal, many users are facing some issues. Most importantly, there are still some jailbreak tweaks that are not compatible with iOS 7.1 and later, so you may have to be patient if some of your must-have tweaks are not compatible yet. The developers will be busy updating them soon.
Also, users are reporting that some apps crash and the biggest culprit is Notes and Reminders. If you’re not using these apps, you’re probably on the clean side, but there’s something you should definitely be aware of. Your mileage will obviously vary.
