Microsoft recently released mobile versions of Office 365 for iPads and iPhones, which includes its suite of Mobile Office apps such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Users can get the same package in the form of Microsoft Office Mobile, an all-in-one Office app on most Android smartphones. But this only works on smartphones. Until Microsoft makes apps for Android tablets like they do for iPads, users will have to install the package using a workaround.
We found a way to install the Microsoft Office Mobile Android app designed for a smartphone on a tablet like the Nexus 7, LG G Pad or Samsung Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Note tablets. We will show users how to do this using several free apps. No rooting the phone or hacking the respective operating system.
Note that Office Mobile is not compatible with Nexus 7 or Galaxy Note 10 tablets.
Get Office Mobile APK Installer from Supported Device
Before installing Office Mobile, users should know that the Office Mobile app does not cost anything to view files, but a user must subscribe to Office 365 from Microsoft to create and edit files on their Android device. Subscription costs $9.99 per month for use on up to five computers and up to 5 mobile devices. People with only one computer and one mobile device can get it for just $6.99 per month. Users will get a few more benefits like OneDrive online storage and monthly Skype call time. subscribe Office365.com page.
Get started by downloading for free Office Mobile application On a smartphone like HTC One or Samsung Galaxy device. When Google installs the app through the Google Play Store, it leaves the APK installer file on the device hidden in the system files. To access the file, users often have to root their device, which involves a complex and advanced process. However, there is an app that will do this even on a non-rooted phone.
MyAppSharer for Android helps us move Office APK installer to unsupported tablet.
Get an app called later My App SharerA free app that finds the APK install file on the phone and shares it in a variety of ways, including:
i used Dropbox To share Office Mobile APK install file to install on Nexus 7 and Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition.
Please do not use MyAppSharer to pirate paid apps and give them to others. App developers work hard to make great apps and we need to support them. If an app is good enough to share with someone, it’s enough to pay a few bucks to help the developer add all these features we want to see in the next release.
Installing Office Mobile APK on Tablet
Open it from the Settings app on Android.
The user must tell the Android operating system to allow the installation of applications from somewhere other than the Google Play Store. Do this by opening Settings. On most Android tablets, open Settings by swiping down from the top of the screen and tap the Settings icon that looks like a gear. Find and tap on the left side of the Settings app on most Android devices. On some devices the user will need to find the correct tab at the top of the Settings screen. In the Security section, find and tap to put a checkmark in the box. This tells Android to allow the Office APK to be installed even if it didn’t come from the Google Play Store.
Open Dropbox if that’s what you used to move the Office Mobile APK installer to the unsupported tablet. Find the APK file on Dropbox. I saved it in the home folder for easy finding, but some people will want to put an Apps folder in Dropbox.
The Office APK installer will have a long and complex name that we share using MyAppShare.
Tap the APK file name in Dropbox. Something similar to the name in the image above will appear with “com.microsoft.office.officehub.apk” instead of a descriptive name like Microsoft Office Mobile. Dropbox will download the APK file and start the OS installation process. Android will ask for permission to install the app. Tap on it.
Android will ask for permission to install the app.
When Android finishes installing the app, tap on it to run it. Enter the registered email address and password to start using the application.
Other Uses of MyAppShare
Users can follow the steps above to move other apps from one Android device to another. For example, I’ve done this with Samsung’s SideSync app, which allows a user to view the screen of one Samsung device on another. It comes pre-installed on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, but not on the Galaxy Note 10. Sidesync lets me view the Note 3’s screen on the Note 10. This way I can plug the Note 3 into the projector in my church and show a PowerPoint presentation on it. Connect two devices using Sidesync and control the presentation from Galaxy Note 10 across the room.
MyAppShare also allows me to backup my apps to Dropbox. When I wipe the phone and plan to restart from factory default settings, I can easily back up the apps and then reinstall them. Insert the micro-SD card into the computer and copy the APK files from Dropbox to the card and insert the card into the device after deleting it.
Finally, this backs up all of a person’s apps. Sometimes Google or a developer gets a useful app from their Play Store. This happened in Angry Birds. Now users can save the file and even upload it to other devices or other Play Store accounts.
