How to Install Glass Screen Protector on iPad

If you’re worried about scratching your new iPad’s screen, getting a screen protector is a great way to prevent it. Here’s how to apply a glass screen protector to your iPad.

There are different styles of screen protectors, but most are usually made of a thin flexible plastic sheet that adheres to your device’s screen using some kind of adhesive or just static electricity.

More expensive screen protectors are essentially made of tempered glass, which are very thin sheets of glass that you stick to your iPad’s screen. This allows you to still give the device that natural glass feel, but adds some thickness as glass screen protectors are slightly thicker than regular plastic ones. This is the kind of thing I’m going to show in this how-to.

There are also more robust screen protectors from companies like Zagg, which specializes in military-grade screen protection. These screen protectors are made of an amazing material that is insanely scratch resistant. They’re often overkill and fairly expensive, but they can be fine for users who work in construction where an iPad will be exposed to extreme conditions most of the time.

That said, glass screen protectors are ideal for most users, and while they’re a bit pricey, keeping that natural glass feel while protecting the screen from scratches is totally worth it. Here’s how to apply a tempered glass screen protector to your iPad.

before you start

Before you apply any screen protector to your iPad, it’s very important to do a few things to prepare it.

The first thing you will want to do is wash your hands to get rid of excess oil and dirt from your fingers. You don’t want fingerprints all over your device when trying to apply a screen protector, so washing your hands can eliminate most annoying fingerprint issues.

Second, you want to apply your screen protector in a room where there isn’t a lot of dust. A good place to do this is in the bathroom right after a hot shower, as the steam and moisture suffocate any dust and provide a great place to put a screen protector on your iPad.

Third, besides your two hands, you’ll want a credit card, a microfiber cloth, and a cleaning wipe, which is essentially a type of wet wipe designed for screens. All these items usually come with a screen protector, especially if you pay extra for a tempered glass screen protector.

Now let’s start applying your glass screen protector.

How to Install Glass Screen Protector on iPad

Before removing the screen protector to apply it, grab your cleaning wipe and clean the iPad’s screen so it looks brand new without fingerprints or dust particles. Then take your microfiber cloth and finish by drying the screen and getting rid of any stubborn dust particles that the cleaning cloth didn’t pick up.

Then, if your glass screen protector came with suction cups, you can attach them to the upward facing side of the screen protector. The suction cup makes it a little easier to apply the glass screen protector, especially since you can bend it and apply it like a plastic screen protector.

Now, gently peel off the protective film at the bottom of the screen protector and align the screen protector on the iPad. From there, gently tilt it to the top of the screen and press in various places on the screen saver to dissolve the larger bubbles. Use a credit card or the included squeegee card to remove smaller stubborn bubbles.

And that’s it! Most companies will send you a replacement for free if you screw up the setup, so don’t be too upset if you don’t get it right, especially if it’s your first time.
