Xiaomi’s Mi A1 smartphone arrives as a revival of Android One, a program that seems to have gone extinct since its initial announcement a few years ago. Unlike Xiaomi’s other Mi phones, the Mi A1’s distinguishing feature is its software: it runs stock Android, not Xiaomi’s own MIUI layer.
Android One is a hardware and software standard created by Google with a focus on entry-level devices for emerging markets. It aims to provide a consistent user experience and enhanced security through frequent updates and Google Play Protect. If we talk about the UI, as mentioned earlier, Android One devices run stock Android with a ton of features like Google Assistant Integration, support for adaptive icons, and more.
Amir Zaidi, who goes by the name AmirZ on Reddithas now released an unrooted port of Android One launcher. He is also the same user as a freer. Unrooted port of Google’s Pixel launcher earlier. Here’s how to run the launcher on any Android phone:
Steps to install Android One Launcher
- To install the Android One launcher on your phone APK file and install it.
- When you’re done, set the default home screen as the new one and you’re ready.
note: Before installing the modified launcher, make sure that neither the Pixel launcher nor the Android One launcher is installed on your device.
That said, it’s worth noting that both the Android One launcher and the Pixel launcher are more or less similar except for a few changes. The Android One launcher has an app dock that looks a little different on the home screen, while the Pixel launcher houses the Google Search bar in the dock itself. The Android One launcher also has a differently designed app drawer. So if anything, we’re mostly looking at aesthetic changes.
