Anyone with a rooted device should be familiar with SuperSU. It has existed for ages and has become the standard for rooting. However, with the latest apps using Google’s SafetyNet to check root status and thus block availability, SuperSU is slowly getting pretty old. This is where Magisk comes into play. Magisk is currently the best alternative to SuperSU and the future of rooting. Having said that, there is a lot of confusion around Magisk, and if you’re confused as well, first let me tell you what Magisk really is.
What is Magisk?
Magisk is an in-house development project provided by XDA developer topjohnwu. systemless root access to user. It does this by modifying the boot image file and writing the contents to the /data and /cache partitions. What this essentially does is create a ‘mask’ of the /system partition. Therefore, all modules and root access are given in this mask and the original / system partition is left untouched. Also, use Magisk as a Mixture of SuperSU and Xposed Framework.
Now that you have an idea of what Magisk is, let’s talk about how you can install Magisk on your Android device:
How to Install Magisk
Prerequisites:
- Unlocked Bootloader
- TWRP or any other Custom Recovery

6. Magisk is now installed. Now, to manage it, you have to Install Magisk Manager. Magisk Manager was recently removed from the Play Store, so you will need to install it via the app’s APK file. First, you must enable the installation of applications from “.Unknown sources” In Settings-> Security. Now, Download APK from the file here to your device and just install it.
That’s it, you can now use Magisk Manager to manage different elements of Magisk.
How to Use Magisk Manager
After installing Magisk Manager, you are presented with several options to fine-tune Magisk’s features. A simple swipe from the left will reveal the navigation drawer, which will present you with a list of various options.
Go to: “To organise” section to check the version of Magisk installed on your device and check for any updates. In case of any update, you can easily download and install the new version from this section. if you go there “superuser” In the section you can manage and change which applications you grant or deny root privileges.
Next “Modules” episode. You can use this section to manage currently installed modules and unload any Magisk module that any third party developer may have made but is not yet available in the Magisk repository. this “Downloads” section is a direct link to the Magisk repository where you can directly download and install the modules of your choice.
Next, we have “Magisk Hide” Page that can be used to prevent Magisk from being detected by any particular application. To do this, simply toggle the button next to the specific application; they cannot detect any Magisk installations. Magisk is also a “Record” basically the section that, as the name suggests, keeps a log of all activity involving Magisk.
Finally, we have “Settings” choice. You can go here to change various settings of the Magisk framework, such as enabling the built-in BusyBox, installing systemless ad-blocking support, and changing various command prompt settings for Superuser.
Various Uses of Magisk
1. Use Android Pay while rooting with Magisk
As you know, Android allows for changes and customizability to suit the consumer’s preferences, while avoiding some of its essentials to be used only on a stock and unrooted device for security purposes. One such feature is Android Pay. Android Pay meticulously checks the system for root access and will not work on any rooted system. This can be avoided with the help of Magisk.
2. Use Pokemon GO and Snapchat while rooting
Pokemon GO and Snapchat are some apps that use Google’s SafetyNet Check to verify root access on a device. If a device is reported to be rooted, the application will not be able to be installed, as is evident in these applications. In case your device is rooted via traditional SuperSU, both Pokemon Go and Snapchat will fail at login phase only. But with the help of Magisk, you can easily play these games without fear (and use additional rooted mods as well).
3. Use Magisk to install System-Less Xposed Framework
Xposed Framework is one of the most widely used system replacement methods available. It contains various submodules that one can use to tune their device to their liking. Therefore, even the Xposed Framework requires root access, but this can be bypassed with the help of Magisk. Go to Downloads Section and download Xposed Framework according to your Android version (SDK 21 – Android 5.0.x; SDK 22 – Android 5.1; SDK 23 – Android 6.x)
4. Install Sound Mods like Viper4Android
Viper4Android is one of the most widely used sound mods for Android due to the sheer number of options it offers under the hood. While Viper4Android does not require root access as such, it does require someone to change their SELinux State. This is circumvented by installing Viper4Android from Download Option. After installing the module from Magisk, you need to install Viper’s Android app to take advantage of the settings. You can download the application from: here. How to uninstall Magisk
In case you want to uninstall Magisk, simply download the Flashable zip file of the uninstaller from: here Install it on your device and flash it with TWRP. Make sure to clear cache/dalvik after uninstalling Magisk to avoid any conflicts.
