How to Increase Bluetooth Headphone Volume on Android

With the ongoing trend of removing 3.5mm jacks from devices, Bluetooth headphones are becoming more and more popular. Many Bluetooth headsets out there come with media control buttons. While this certainly makes it easier for the general consumer to easily control media volume using their Bluetooth headset, there is a catch. You see, each Bluetooth headset also has its own media volume. Unfortunately, when you connect it to your Android device, the volume buttons on your headset only control your Android device’s media volume. Therefore, the normal user will never be able to experience the full audio capacity of the Bluetooth headset. Well, don’t worry, because we have a fix. So, if you have a pair of Bluetooth headphones with media buttons, read on as this article is a must for you:

Increase Bluetooth Headphone Volume

note: The following method works on Android Nougat (7.0+) devices. I tried the following method Nokia 8 running Android Oreo (8.0) with mine Boat Rockerz 510and it worked just fine.

  • To start, Enable Developer Options on your device. To do this, go to System -> About phone and tap “Build number” seven times. Now go to Settings -> System -> Developer options.

  • Once in developer options, scroll all the way down “Network” section. Here, enable the toggle next to “Disable absolute volume”.

Disable absolute volume

  • And that’s it. Your Bluetooth device volume and system device volume will now be separate. You can now maximize both separately to provide higher media volume.

Get Maximum Sound Quality From Your Bluetooth Devices

With Android Nougat (7.0), Google combined both voice controls. While this certainly makes things easier for most users, it is problematic for some users as their Bluetooth headphones get stuck at the sound setting with the device turned on. Thanks to the trick above, the volume buttons on my Android device now control the media volume, while the volume buttons on my headset control the playback volume. With both toggles maxed out, I’m able to enjoy the maximum volume output from my Bluetooth headset.
