Most smartphones these days come with on-screen navigation bar instead of hardware buttons. For a company this really saves manufacturing costs of including an extra piece of hardware in the form of capacitive or physical buttons. Also, ‘soft keys’ offer tons of customizability for OEMs and consumers. However, it comes at the expense of reducing the real estate of your screen. If you’re one of those people who really wants to get the most out of your device’s screen, you’re inclined to the idea of hiding your navigation bar.

Hide Navigation Bar Using Third-Party Apps
You can use the Power Toggles app to enable immersive mode on your device, which hides the status bar and navigation bar, giving you more screen space. To do this, follow these steps:
- Go to Play Store and download Power Transitions from here. It’s free and works on non-rooted devices.
- Then, long press the home screen and “Widgets” select the section andPower Transitions”Drag and “4×1 Panel Widget” to the desktop.
- Now, you need to customize the widget. tap on “Add Transition” press button and scroll down “view” episode. Once there, you will find the pass “Immersive Mode”. Simply tap on it to add it to the widget.
- Tap on Completed To exit the widget edit menu Now, on your home screen Immersive Mode Icon To switch between immersive mode on your device
- This much. You can now use this toggle to enable or disable Immersive Mode on your device.
Another option to achieve these results, GMD Full Screen Immersive Mod app (Free, with in-app purchases). While Power Toggles hides both the status bar and the navigation bar, this app gives you option to hide one or both of these. You can use this application with the help of simple toggle in the notification panel.
Hide Navigation Bar Using Build.Prop Editor (Root)
While the apps mentioned above are good enough to temporarily hide the navigation bar, you may want to get rid of it permanently and resort to other navigation methods like Pie Control or hardware buttons (if available on your device). So you can edit your device’s build.prop file to get rid of the navigation bar completely.
note – Before proceeding with the steps below, make sure you have at least one navigation method configured as below on your device. simple cake or your capacitive hardware buttons.
- go to game store and download BuildProp Editor (Freewith in-app purchases) and open it.
- After opening the app, tap its icon. edit icon Swipe All the way down in the top right corner to open the editor and add the following line “qemu.hw.mainkeys = 1” and then tap on Save button in the upper right corner.
- When you tap the save icon, you will be presented with a list of three options. Tap on “Save and exit”. The application will then give it root privileges to continue. Once done, Restart your device.
- This much. After restarting your device, you will notice that your navigation bar has disappeared. now you can use alternative navigation method (simple cake or others) as the primary method for navigating the device.
