Instagram recently launched a new test that allows users to choose to hide the number of likes on their own posts or other posts they see in their feed. Instagram says the number of likes on your posts will reduce the negative psychological effects on users compared to likes on other similar posts. So if you’re someone who doesn’t want to see likes on Instagram posts, here’s how to hide likes on Instagram.
Hide Likes on Instagram (May 2021)
There are two different types of likes you can hide on Instagram. Basically, you can hide the likes on other users’ posts in your feed, or you can hide the likes on your own posts. You can also choose to enable both of these features to make sure you don’t see the likes anywhere on Instagram.
In this article, we will take a look at how to hide likes from all posts and how to hide likes from photos you share. You can use the table of contents below to jump to the section most relevant to you.
note: We tested the ability to hide likes and views on Instagram on Android. But the process should be pretty much the same for iOS as well.
How to Hide Likes for All Posts on Instagram
First, let’s take a look at how to hide likes for all posts on Instagram. When you enable this feature, Instagram will not display the exact number of likes on posts you see in your feed. Instead, you will see something like ‘Liked by akshay_gangwar et al’ below posts in your feed. Here’s how to do this.
- Go to your profile and tap the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top right. Here, Tap on “Settings” below.
- Go to “Privacy” and Tap “Posts”.
- Here, enable the toggle next to “Hide Likes and Views” choice.
This much. After you enable this toggle, you will no longer see likes on posts from other users in your stream.
How to Hide Likes on Photos You Post to Instagram
On the other hand, if you want, you can hide the number of likes on your own posts. If you enable this, you can still see the number of likes on posts that appear in your feed. However, people who view your posts cannot see exactly how many likes your posts have been received. Note that you can still see the exact number of likes and views on the photos and videos you share on Instagram.
Hide Likes on New Instagram Posts
- Select the photo you want to share with your followers, edit it as you wish, and then Tap on “Advanced Settings” On the screen where you enter the title of your posts.
- Here, you can enable “Hide Likes and Views on This Post” Switch before sharing the photo/video.
This much. Now other Instagram users will not be able to see the number of likes your photo has received. Only you can see the number of likes and views of your post; this is not as mentally challenging as it used to be.
Hide Likes on Existing Instagram Posts
If you want to hide the number of likes for a photo/video that you have previously posted on Instagram, you can do that too. Don’t worry, you don’t need to delete your posts (see how to restore Instagram posts if you deleted them) or anything. Here’s how to hide likes on existing posts on your profile.
- Open the post for which you want to hide the like counts, tap the three-dot menu icon next to your username in the top right. Now, tap on “Hide Likes”.
When you do this, people will no longer be able to see the exact number of likes on the post you’ve set. This way, you can be sure that your followers won’t know how many likes your posts have gotten, while still keeping track of the performance of your posts on Instagram. You can also choose to turn off message (DM) requests and contact sync to protect your privacy and security on Instagram.
