Google Chrome was spotted testing the new Material You design a few months ago. Since then, as mottled with Android PoliceThe developers at Google have made some headway with the dynamic color theme, and Chrome’s Material You is starting to take shape. In this article, we’ll take a look at how you can test Chrome’s upcoming Material You design before it launches later this year.
Get Your Material Theme in Google Chrome
To get the Material You aesthetic in Google Chrome, you need to enable two Chrome flags in the Canary build on your handset. It goes without saying that you will need an Android phone running Android 12 for the feature to work as intended. Other than that, let’s have a look at the steps:
1. Open the chrome flags (chrome://flags) and enable the flags mentioned below and don’t forget to restart the browser after enabling it. especially, You must set the ‘Dynamic colors on Android’ flag to ‘Enabled (Full)’.

2. If you don’t see the feature right away, uninstall Chrome Canary from recent apps page and open the app manually. now you will notice Chrome’s UI elements follow the Material You design language. Check out some examples of Chrome changing the color of the UI based on the wallpaper below:
Although Chrome has adopted Material You in key UI elements, it is still incomplete. A few key shortcomings at this point include the context menu for options and long press, and the background in Chrome settings. However, this should be fixed in future Canary builds as Chrome is ready to fully adopt the Material You theme.
