Microsoft has recently been updating Edge Chromium with a host of new features, including a new security tool called ‘Password Monitor’ that brings on-demand scans to detect compromised passwords. So, if you’re worried about using leaked passwords on the web, this is how you can use the new functionality to get password breach alerts in Microsoft Edge and ensure your private data stays safe and secure.
Get Password Violation Alerts in Microsoft Edge
The new feature was: Released with build 89.0.723.0 Edge Chromium is expected to be released on the Development channel to beta and stable channels earlier this month and in the coming weeks. Note: I usually use the Canary build of Microsoft Edge which is more buggy and unstable than Dev Channel and not recommended for general users.
- To use the Password Watch feature, first Download and install Microsoft Edge (Dev/Canary) from the official Edge Insider website (Free).
- Run the browser and type (or copy+paste) “edge://settings/passwords” (without the quotes) in the address bar. Press the ‘Enter’ key.
- enable the option that says “Show alert when passwords are found in an online leak”. It is off by default.
- To do an on-demand scan, click/tap the ‘View Results’ option that appears when you turn the button on.
- All the passwords you have saved in the browser will be presented to you. Click ‘Scan Now’ to check if your saved passwords have been compromised.
This much. You will now receive password breach alerts in Microsoft Edge, and you can also run on-demand scans to make sure all your online passwords are safe.
