The OnePlus 5T was recently introduced and with it came a ton of new features. While the highlights of the device are definitely its 18:9 screen and updated camera, another remarkable feature introduced with the 5T was Face Unlock. In an attempt to challenge the iPhone X’s Face ID, OnePlus has brought Face Unlock to its staggeringly fast flagship devices. If you are a fan of this feature and would love to have it on your device, read on as we show you how to get the OnePlus 5T face unlock feature on your Android device:
Get OnePlus 5T Face Unlock on Your Android Device
note: The following method uses Smart Lock introduced in Android Lollipop (5.0). Therefore, the method only works on devices running Android Lollipop and above (5.0+). Also make sure to set up a screen lock using a PIN, Pattern or Password. I tried the method on my Moto X Play running Android 7.1.1 and the method worked just fine.
- To get started, go to: Settings -> Security -> Smart Lock. You will be asked to enter your PIN/Password to continue, do so.
- From the list of Smart Lock settings, tap . “Trusted face”.
- Tap on the following screen. “To create”. You will now be shown instructions on how to add a trusted face. Tap on it “Next” to continue.
- The device will now start registering your Face ID. simply place your face inside the marked circle while the device is recording your face. Upon successful completion, you will get a screen as shown below.
- To use Face Unlock Keep your device at face level in locked mode. As you can see below, the icon at the bottom of the screen changes from “face recognition” to “unlocked”.
While this isn’t as secure as the OnePlus 5T’s face unlock feature, it’s a nice way to have the same feature on any Android device. Also, unlike the 5T, which bypasses the lock screen directly, this method only unlocks your device. You will still have to swipe up to unlock the device.
