iOS 9.3 is currently in beta mode, but Apple announced all the new features coming to the new update earlier this month, including a new iOS 9.3 night mode feature called Night Shift.
What this does is automatically change the color temperature of the screen to a warmer tone when day turns into night, and eliminates the harsh blue tint LCD screens emit, making the screen easier on the eyes.
It’s a really cool feature and one that we’re excited about, but you can already use such a feature on a jailbroken iPhone or iPad thanks to a Cydia tweak called F.lux.
Also, you can get F.lux for free on your Mac or Windows computer without updating anything; this allows you to take advantage of iOS 9.3’s night mode feature just before the update is released.
Here’s how to get the new night mode feature of iOS 9.3 on your Mac or Windows machine.
The Big Problem With LCD Screens
LCD screens’ backlight emits a cooler color temperature; this means that this light should closely match the color temperature of daylight rather than the warmer hue of your indoor lamps.
No problem during the day when the sun is out, but cooler color temperature at night you can get it with your eyesand because the hue emanating from your monitor closely matches the hues of daylight, your brain still thinks that daylight is out when it’s really 11:00 at night.
Therefore, looking at LCD screens at night can disrupt your circadian rhythm, the 24-hour cycle of physiological processes that humans experience. Part of the circadian rhythm is the day and night cycle, and when the sun goes down it’s a signal to your brain that it’s time to calm down and get ready for bed.
However, that bright blue tint your screens emit can spoil that. Fortunately, there is a quick fix.
Download F.lux
F.lux is available for free on any Mac or Windows computer, as well as jailbroken iPhones and iPads. But for this we will only focus on Mac and Windows.
The first thing you want to do Go to F.lux’s website and download the free tool. From there, install and then run as you would any app.
On Mac, a small icon will appear in the menu bar, on Windows it will be in the system tray.
Opening F.lux’s preferences will give you a small window where you can adjust F.lux and customize it by adjusting when the screen adjusts its color temperature settings.
There is a slider for changing the color temperature, so the further you move the slider to the left, the warmer the color temperature of the screen gets, and moving it all the way to the right shows the natural color temperature of the screen. You can set a setting for three different times during the day: Daytime, Sunset and Bedtime.
You can also tell the app when you wake up normally; so your screen will be at its optimal color temperature when you wake up and go to bed, based on the traditional eight-hour sleep.
Finally, you can adjust your location for more accurate results on where the sun is relative to the sky at a given time based on your location, because the sun can be in different positions at different locations. same.
Make sure to put a checkmark next to Start F.lux at login so that it automatically turns on when you turn on your computer.
