The so-called “parallax effect” or scrolling in iOS 7 is a clean new feature that brings a dynamic and stylish 3D look to your smartphone’s home screen and wallpapers, and when you tilt or move your device, the image moves around the icons and looks almost 3D. It’s like you’re looking at your device through a window.
Apple called this “liveness” with iOS 7, and it’s actually been available on Android for a very long time. There are countless live wallpaper apps on the Google Play Store for Android smartphones and tablets that use this feature and have been available for about 2 years. Apple and iOS 7 made it popular and we’re being asked questions about it, here’s how to add the same iOS 7 parallax effect to Android devices.
If you want your wallpapers to move with your movement, a quick Parallax app for Android will do the trick. We’ve enjoyed live wallpapers on Android for a while, but this one brings a whole different dimension to your home screen. Visually impressive and great for objects such as a picture of children or your family pet.
Adding the popular iOS 7 Parallax Effect to an Android smartphone or tablet is very simple. It’s as easy as downloading an app from the Google Play Store and applying a wallpaper. If you’ve never done this before, don’t worry, the steps below are so simple you’ll be able to follow them right away.

The reason this app is here is because it allows customization and use any image from your gallery, not just what you have on your device. So go to Google Play Store and search for “3D Parallax Background” or Parallax Effect and choose the one you want. The video above demonstrated this impressive visual feature and experience, but we’ll go over the instructions once again below.
Instructions
What you see above is the parallax effect and it’s so easy to access your preferred Android device. Using pictures of family or pets is my favourite, but a beautiful sunset or landscape shot would be great too. Now that you’ve seen how it looks and how to do it above, here’s how to do it in simple terms and screenshots.
After downloading your preferred app from the Google Play Store, all you need to do to get started are the simple steps shown above. Press the Settings (gear-shaped) icon in your notification bar or app tray and go to Settings > Display > Wallpaper > Live Wallpaper; on the next screen (shown below) you will see the list of downloaded apps and then select the one you want.
From here you will change all the settings you want to change for the Parallax Effect wallpaper, make the picture your kids or pets picture and press “Set Wallpaper” and that’s it. All ok. Then return to your home screen and enjoy the clean visuals. It might be a little strong and nauseous for some, but I’ve been using this for almost a year now and I love it.
Should You Use This?
The beauty of Android over almost any other operating system on the planet is the amount of options and customization. The options are truly endless and this is just one of the many different things that many users enjoy. Adding Parallax effect to your smartphone or tablet with live wallpaper can be fun, but it can drain your battery. This is a hot topic on Android forums, but in general this type of wallpaper will have minimal impact on battery life.
It’s not the best feature we’ve seen yet, but it’s fun, neat, and simple to do. It’s certainly not for everyone and you can delete it in a few minutes or days, but it’s worth a try and see the many different ways you can modify your Android device.
