How to Get Better PS4 Controller Battery Life

If you want to game on your PS4 for as long as possible without the controller dying, here’s how to improve PS4 controller battery life.

The battery life of any device is always a concern for many users. With most battery powered devices it seems that users never have enough power to create their content, which is not too surprising because we always want more from our batteries.

A good charge takes about 7-9 hours for a PS4 controller, but there are many things that can affect it. For example, if you’re playing a game that uses the controller’s built-in speaker or uses vibration more than other games, the battery life may not be as good as it could be.

For me personally, I don’t play my PS4 very often (maybe an hour or so every night, if that’s the case), which means I can easily extend a single charge to several weeks. However, if you’re a hardcore gamer and marathoner, you’re in luck to have a PS4 controller that lasts as long as you need.

Luckily, there are a few things you can do to increase the battery life of the PS4 controller, some of which are really easy, while others require you to get your hands a little dirty.

Without further ado, here’s how you can get better PS4 controller battery life.

Turn Off Internal Speaker

In case you didn’t know, the PS4 controller has a small built-in speaker to give gamers a more focused sound while playing games. Some games take advantage of this speaker and some don’t, but if you prefer not to turn the speaker on at all, you can actually turn it off.

By going to , you can adjust the volume and turn it all the way down to completely prevent sound from coming out of that built-in speaker, giving you a slight boost in battery life.

Turn off vibration

The vibration of the PS4 controller is a big part of the gaming experience. It takes you deep into the world you’re playing, whether it’s the vibrations of driving over jolt lanes in a driving game or feeling the power of a gun as you take a few turns in a first-person shooter.

It’s a great feature to have, but especially if the particular game you’re playing is using the vibration more than other games, it can easily drain the battery and drain it faster than usual.

To disable vibration and turn off the motors, simply go into the box and uncheck the box.

Decrease Light Bar Brightness

Your PS4 controller has an LED light, called a Light Bar, that glows a different color for each player if you’re playing with friends. It’s also useful for you to tell when your controller is on or off.

That said, the Light Bar is set to its highest brightness by default when it’s not really needed, but you can dim it on your PS4.

Go to the lowest brightness setting that is “Dim” and adjust. This doesn’t save battery life a ton as LEDs are already super energy efficient, but every little bit helps.

Automatically Turn Off the Controller

You will most likely use your PS4 controller all the time, but if you use your PS4 for watching movies and the like, it will remain unused while your controller is still on. However, you can set it to turn off automatically after a certain time.

simply go. It will turn off automatically, but you can turn it on and choose a length of time you want before the controller shuts down due to inactivity. You can set it to 10, 30 or 60 minutes.

You can also manually turn off the controller and keep your PS4 system powered by holding the PS button for 10 seconds.

Get a Bigger Battery

If you prefer to keep all of the above features enabled and turned on, you’re out of luck if you want better PS4 controller battery life, but it will take some hands-on work.
