Here, we have mentioned three different methods to help you fix the sign in problem in Windows 10. But before that, let me clarify, all your files, folders and drives are completely safe and nothing to worry about. Windows suffers from this issue when the user profile gets corrupted due to Registry modification and problems with damaged system files. Now that we have cleared that doubt, let’s start with the first method, the Registry hack.
1. Are You Signed In With a Temporary Profile? Try Registry Hack
Windows has logged you into a temporary profile because you couldn’t log into your account. You can make a few changes using this profile. To restore the original profile
Note: Even if you are not logged into a temporary profile, you can still access the Registry via Safe Mode. In the next section (Steps #1 – #3) I explained the steps to boot in safe mode, so go through that and then continue with the instructions below.
1. Press the “Windows” and “R” keys simultaneously. Open Run window. Here, enter regedit
Enter it in the text field and press enter.
2. Next, copy the following path and paste it in the address bar Registry Editor. After that hit enter and you will be redirected to ProfileList folder. Under this folder you will find entries with the initials “S-1-5”. All these “S-1-5” folders are assigned for each user account profile on your PC.
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
3. Now we have to find the original corrupted user profile. Review each “S-1-5” folder and Search for broken username in ProfileImagePath.
4. When you find the correct “S-1-5” folder, Double click on “State” and change the value data to 0
.
5. Find “RefCount” under the same folder and change the value data to: 0
. If “RefCount” is not available then right click on main window and click on New -> DWORD (32 bit) and name manually RefCount
. After that enter 0
in value data.

Note: If you are not logged in to a temporary profile, click the Power menu on the login screen (located in the lower right corner) and continue with the same instruction outlined above.
