Most of the movies and TV shows on Netflix are in English. The streaming service also carries several good movies and TV series in foreign languages. However, many users find it difficult to grasp English on Netflix due to the different diction and pronunciation of artists from different regions. This is where subtitles save the day. It’s fine until the Netflix subtitles disappear or don’t work on your phone, tablet, laptop or desktop.
This can be very frustrating because you can’t keep watching that amazing show, movie or documentary. Here are some easy and effective solutions to help you get subtitles back under your screen.
Let’s start.
1. Settings
Have you checked your settings for the content you are viewing? If not, start there and check if the subtitle option is selected. Even if it is selected, deselect it and select it again. This can speed things up. Play any video and tap Audio & Subtitles at the bottom of the screen.
You will see an option to turn it off or play it in English or other available languages if available.

2. Subtitle View
Is part of the subtitle missing on Netflix? To solve this, you can easily change the size and type of fonts. Tap on More, Settings and select Account. Tap on subtitle view. These steps are for Android, but you can do the same on any platform.
Reduce the size of the font and see how it looks in real time.
You can also change the font. Check if the Netflix missing subtitles issue is resolved.
3. Different Platform, Browser
Watching Netflix on your smartphone? Maybe your favorite Chrome browser? I recommend trying a different platform like Windows 10 app or macOS or a different browser like Firefox, Brave or Opera.
If Netflix subtitles work in another browser or platform, there is a problem with the platform or browser you are using. Read on to find out what can be done to fix the error. Keep watching on another platform until the bug is fixed.
It is also possible that the series or movie you tried to watch on Netflix is no longer there. Of course, you can try searching in another streaming service.
4. Browser Extension
There are two things we’re going to cover here, so don’t rush through this point. The first is an incompatible plugin or extension. Open Netflix in Incognito mode and check if Netflix subtitles are still missing. If not, you need to disable all extensions to find the culprit and then re-enable them one by one.
The second is a Chrome extension called NflxMultiSubs that will add a second subtitle in your chosen language. It supports Russian and Japanese, among others. It can fix the missing subtitle issue and also add one in your native language.
5. Sign Out, Sign In
This is one of those tricks that usually works with several services. So log out and log back in once. This might work to fix a temporary glitch or bug that could be causing the missing subtitle error.
6. Update, Restart, Retry
Update the Netflix app on the device. Get the latest version of the app, be it Android, iOS, Windows or macOS. If you are using a browser, check for browser updates. Restart the device in question and try again. Check if this helps to resolve Netflix subtitles not working error.
7. Clear Cache and Data Files
Whether you are using an app or browser, clearing the cache and temporary data can help you fix many errors including Netflix subtitles are missing or not working error.
On Android, open Settings and go to the Application list and find Netflix.
Tap on Clear data at the bottom of the screen and select Clear all data here.
You will need to sign in to your Netflix account again so make sure you have the password. Check again for subtitle error. Follow these steps to clear the Chrome browser cache.

Netflix can help you pass the time and get away from pressing problems like a virus outbreak or relieve boredom while you’re at home. However, subtitles will help you catch great content on Netflix in other languages.
