How to Fix iPhone 15 Battery Life Problems

If you’re experiencing battery life issues on your new iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, or iPhone 15 Pro Max, there are some steps you should take before contacting Apple support.

We haven’t seen any widespread complaints about the iPhone 15’s battery life yet, but some users are reporting that their new phone’s battery is draining faster than it should.

iPhone battery life issues are common, especially after Apple released its new iOS 17 software. 5G can also drain batteries faster than LTE, so it’s no surprise to see complaints about battery drain.

If you start to notice serious battery drain on your iPhone 15, you will of course want to try and fix the problem immediately. In this guide, we will show you some fixes that can help you fix bad iPhone 15 battery life.

These are fixes that have worked for us for years and can help you fix your battery problems in minutes and avoid contacting customer service.

Restart Your iPhone 15

If your iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Pro’s battery starts draining faster than you think, we always recommend doing a quick reboot before doing anything else.

Turn off your iPhone, wait a minute and turn it back on. If it still drains quickly, continue with the other steps below.

Update Your iPhone 15

Apple will regularly release new iOS 17 software updates for the iPhone 15 series. Point updates (xxx) usually focus on fixing bugs, while milestone upgrades (xx) usually provide a number of features and fixes.

The company may not mention battery life fixes in the iOS 17 update’s changelog, but new firmware always has the potential to help alleviate battery drain issues.

Turn off 5G

The iPhone 15 series supports 5G connectivity, which can still drain your phone’s battery much faster than LTE. If you don’t need to use 5G or don’t need to use it all the time, go to the settings of your iPhone 15.

There are a few 5G settings you’ll want to save in your memory bank. To find them, you’ll want to go to the Settings app, then Cellular, then Cellular Data Options, then Voice & Data.

Here you will see three options:

5G On means your iPhone 15 will use 5G when available, even though it might drain your phone’s battery life.

The 5G Auto option only uses 5G when it won’t significantly drain your phone’s battery. 5G Auto is the default and is the option most people should choose.

Check Your Apps

Apps can sometimes have a negative impact on your phone’s battery life, and you may want to investigate them if your battery is draining quickly.

Checking app performance is extremely easy on the iPhone 15 series. Here’s how to do this:

This battery usage tool shows you which apps are draining your phone’s battery and when they do so.

If you use an app a lot, it will consume more battery than an app you never use. If you find that an app you rarely use is consuming a lot of power, you’ll want to investigate further.

If this is the case, try deleting the app from your device and see if your device’s battery life improves. If the app is essential for your daily life, we recommend downloading the latest update from the App Store.

If that doesn’t work, you may need to roll back to an earlier version of iOS 17 if the option is available.

Use Low Power Mode

Low Power Mode helps preserve battery life by turning off services that might drain your battery.

You can turn Low Power Mode on and off at any time. Your iPhone will also ask you to turn it on when it reaches 20% battery.

Add Low Power Mode to your Control Center if you haven’t already. Control Center is the menu that opens when you swipe up from the top-right corner of the screen. Here’s how to add it:

The next time you open Control Center on your device, you will see a battery icon. Tap this to enable or disable Low Power Mode on your device.

You can also turn on Low Power Mode from your Settings:

Turn Off Live Voicemail

Live Voicemail provides real-time reading of the voicemail left on your iPhone. This can be useful, but it will appear on your phone’s lock screen, which can harm your device’s battery life. If you don’t need the feature, turn it off.

Reduce Screen Brightness

If you constantly keep your phone’s screen at maximum brightness, the battery will drain. We recommend enabling Auto-Brightness on your iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Pro to help prevent battery drain. Here’s how to do this:

Turn Off Always On Display

Always On Display is a useful feature, but it has the potential to drain your phone’s battery life.

This feature is on by default, but if you don’t need it, you can try turning it off to see if it improves your phone’s battery life. Here’s how to do this:

Manage Location Services

We recommend looking into apps that use location services as they can help extend your iPhone 15’s battery life.

To do this, follow these steps:

Here you’ll find apps that take advantage of location services. Location services use cellular data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS to determine your approximate location.

You can turn it off completely by closing it at the top of the screen, or scroll down through your app list and decide which apps deserve permission.

Specifically look for apps that are set to “Always” as these are likely the apps that strain your iPhone 15’s battery the most.

Close Live Events

Live Events is a feature that provides notifications on your iPhone 15’s lock screen or Dynamic Island. These notifications can be useful, but they can also drain your phone’s battery. If you don’t need Live Events, try turning them off.

You can also turn off Live Events on a per-app basis. Go to the Settings app, scroll down to your apps, and look for the Live Events button.

If you want notifications or don’t see any change in your iPhone 15’s battery life, you can turn them back on at any time.

Reset all settings

If all else fails, try resetting all settings of your iPhone 15.

Before doing this, note that this will cause your device to forget known Wi-Fi networks; so make sure you keep your passwords somewhere.

Once the process is complete, you will need to reconnect your iPhone 15 to your Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth devices.

downgrade iOS

If you can’t find a solution to your problem and/or don’t want to wait for Apple’s next iOS 17 update, you can try downgrading your iPhone 15’s software if the option is available.
