The iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max come with Apple’s latest hardware, but Apple’s flagship devices aren’t immune to performance issues.
We get feedback from those who have adopted the company’s new iPhone models. Most of the feedback is good, but we also heard about performance issues such as stuttering, crashes and lag.
If your iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, or iPhone 14 Pro Max freezes or hangs, you don’t need to contact Apple customer service yet. You can solve your problems in a few minutes.
This walkthrough will walk you through solutions for iPhone performance issues that have worked for us in the past. They will also help you maintain a fast and efficient iPhone in the future.
Restart your iPhone
If you start experiencing performance issues on your iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, or iPhone 14 Pro Max, try restarting your device. Most of the time, a quick reboot alleviates problems.
Turn off your device, leave it off for 30 seconds, and then turn it back on and see if performance improves. If not, you’ll want to try the solutions below.
Update Your iPhone
Apple will release new iOS 16 software throughout the year. Point updates (xxx) almost always focus on fixing bugs, while landmark upgrades (xx) typically offer a mix of new features and bug fixes.
The company may not cite performance fixes in the changelog of an iOS 16 update, but new software always has the potential to help (or hurt) the overall performance of your iPhone 14.

Update Your Apps
If there is an update available in the App Store, try updating the apps on your iPhone to the latest version.
App developers continue to roll out support updates to iOS 16 and these updates can help stabilize the performance of the app and/or your iPhone.
Before installing the latest version of an app, be sure to review reviews from other iPhone 14 and iOS 16 users. If the reviews are mostly good, download the latest version.
reset all settings
You can also try resetting your iPhone 14’s settings. This will restore your device’s settings to their factory defaults, so make sure you have your Wi-Fi passwords handy. You will need to re-enter them when the process is finished.
This process may take a few seconds to complete, so be patient.
Clean Up Your Storage
If you transferred files from an old phone to your iPhone 14, it may be taking up too much space on your phone’s internal storage. Getting rid of these unused files and apps can help improve your device’s performance.
You will want to check and see how much free space you have on your iPhone 14. You can do this like this:
If you’re getting close to hitting the storage threshold, you’ll want to go back to General and navigate to where it says iPhone Storage. This will show you a detailed summary of your data.
Apple will make some recommendations based on your device’s storage usage, but you can go through each section to manually delete files you no longer need.
Clear Browser Cookies and Data
Clearing your browser’s cookies and data will free up memory, which can have a positive effect on your phone’s performance.
If you’re using Apple’s Safari browser, you can clear them like this:
Tapping this removes your browsing history, cookies and other data from Safari. History will also be deleted from all devices signed into your iCloud account. If you’re ready for that, tap Clear History and Data again.
If you’re using Google’s Chrome browser, here’s what you need to do:
You can now choose what you want to delete. If you notice heavy lag, you may want to clean everything up and start from scratch.
Reduction
If you have recently installed a new version of iOS 16 on your iPhone 14 and are noticing problems, you can try to migrate your iPhone 14’s software to the previous iOS 16 version if the option is available.
