How to Fix iPadOS 16 Battery Life Issues

If you encounter iPadOS 16 battery life issues on your iPad, iPad mini, iPad Air, or iPad Pro, there are steps you should take before contacting customer service.

In the months since the release of iPadOS 16, Apple has fixed numerous bugs and performance issues. However, some issues remain, such as the abnormal discharge of the battery.

Battery draining is an extremely common problem. Also, most problems, although hardware related to your iPad, are caused by the iPadOS operating system and/or an app.

If your iPad has very bad battery life, you may have the option to upgrade to the more stable iPadOS 16 software. However, the latest software protects your tablet from damage, so you should try to fix the problem yourself if you can.

iPadOS 16 battery life issues can be difficult to fix, but we have some solutions that might work for you. Try these before contacting Apple customer service or scheduling an appointment at your local Apple Store.

Restart Your iPad

If you start noticing that your iPad’s battery is draining quickly, the first thing you’ll want to do is restart it. This only takes a moment and can help resolve issues.

Turn off your device, leave it for a minute, and then turn it back on. Use normally and monitor your device’s battery life.

If you’re still having problems, try another fix.

Update Your iPad

Apple will regularly release new iPadOS 16 software for your device. The company’s point updates (xxx) usually focus on fixing bugs, while milestone upgrades (xx) typically offer a variety of features and fixes.

The company doesn’t usually mention battery life fixes in its changelogs, but there’s always a chance the new iPadOS 16 software will rule the ship.

If a new iPadOS 16 software update is available, review feedback on its performance and decide if it’s worth installing on your device. If you’re having serious problems, it probably is.

wait

If you’ve recently installed a new software update, installed a new app, or restored from a backup, you’ll want to wait for the battery life issues you see.

When you perform these actions, power consumption can increase significantly, so you’ll want to give your iPad’s components some time to get used to it.

We recommend that you wait at least 24 hours before taking action. In most cases, the battery life will fall into place and you can use your device normally.

Control Your Apps

Apps are the main source of battery life problems; so if you encounter abnormal battery drain, you will want to search for apps on your iPad.

Fortunately, checking app performance is easy in iPadOS 16. It may only take a few moments to find the app or apps that are causing your headache.

If you use an app a lot on your tablet, it will consume more battery than an app you never use. So if you see anything unusual, you will want to continue your research.

If you find that one or more of your apps is consuming an abnormal amount of battery, try deleting the app from your device and see if that improves your iPad’s performance.

If the app is required, we recommend downloading the latest update. Be sure to read reviews from other iPadOS 16 users before doing so.

Decrease Screen Brightness

If you constantly set your iPad’s screen to maximum brightness, it will drain the battery. To avoid this, you should enable Auto-Brightness to help prevent battery drain.

If you prefer to manage the screen brightness on your own, make sure to keep it at a reasonable level, especially when you need to save battery life.

reset all settings

If none of the fixes above are making the pin move, try resetting all of your iPad’s settings.

Doing so will cause your iPad to forget known Wi-Fi networks (and Bluetooth connections), so make sure you have your passwords handy before proceeding.

Here’s how you can reset all your iPad’s settings:

Once the process is complete, you should reconnect your iPad to your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices.

Downgrade iPadOS

If you can’t find a solution to your problem and/or don’t want to wait for Apple’s next iPadOS 16 update, you can try reverting to an older version of the iPad. You should only do this if you are sure that your iPad is working normally on older firmware.

Your downgrade options change over time, and downgrade may not be available because Apple has stopped signing into older iPadOS 16 software.
