Video conferencing apps are top of the line work-from-home solutions and have experienced incredible growth recently. For both casual and professional video calls, such apps are a godsend. One such app is Houseparty, which allows users to not only talk to each other but also play cool games. The only problem is that the Houseparty app won’t work or even install for some users.
The app is available on both iOS and Android, and there is also a web version. Let’s take a look at what we can do to help the situation so you can get back to playing pranks and gaming over video calls on Houseparty.
1. Application/Server Side Errors
The recent increase in the number of users has caused all sorts of problems. Houseparty shared a update soon stating that they are facing ‘some problems’ without being too obvious. I suggest you check their Twitter account for official announcements.
You should also check Downdetector to see if there is a server outage or other issue where you live. It’s a handy site that monitors the most popular apps and services for downtime. Check the regional map and chart for more details.
2. Access and Permissions
Houseparty app installs properly but still not working properly? One reason may be lack of appropriate permissions such as camera, microphone and gallery access. Let’s start with the browser. Go to camera under settings or copy and paste this in a new tab.
chrome://settings/content/camera
Check if Houseparty is listed under Block list and if yes, delete the list. Now repeat the same process for the microphone which can be found in the path indicated below.
chrome://settings/content/microphone
And do this for notifications too. If the list is too long, you can search for the entry.
chrome://settings/content/notifications
Restart the web app. This time, among other things, make sure to allow access to the webcam and microphone when prompted.
On Android phones go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps > House Party and turn on App permissions. Make sure you have permission to access contacts, camera and everything else. Otherwise, Houseparty will not work properly.
For iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Home Party and grant the necessary permissions.
Note: Most people have contacts saved on their smartphones. Nor will it show in the web app (browser) unless you have given Houseparty access to the people there. So you might wonder why I can’t see my contacts even though the web app is working properly. You can’t because you have to sync them from the phone first.
3. Number of Devices
Houseparty says you can only party on one device at a time, regardless of whether you have a pretty face or not.
Close all other instances of the Houseparty app under your username and select a device. Choose your party location. This is another reason why Houseparty might not work for you.
4. Old Cache, Corrupted Data
Outdated cache or corrupted app files may be responsible for Houseparty not working error. Again, I’ll start with the browser.
Options and location may vary depending on the browser you are using. Go to Settings and under Privacy & security find Clear browsing data option. You need to delete cookies and cache files. Note that doing this will log you out of all sites, not just Houseparty. Save everything before proceeding.
Android users will open Settings > Manage apps > Apps > Home Party and tap Clear data at the bottom of the screen. From there you can delete both data and cache files. This requires you to sign in to the Houseparty app again. After that check if the app is running.
5. Reinstall
I suggest you repeat the steps in the point above before uninstalling and reinstalling Houseparty. There are two benefits you will get. For one, you will automatically use the latest version of the app, which should fix all known bugs and bugs. Second, if you don’t delete the cache and other old data files, they may continue to hinder the way the app works. And you definitely don’t want that. Always do a clean install when reinstalling an app regardless of platform.
housewarming party
Houseparty is a new app that was released last year and was later acquired by Epic Games. That’s why you can count on Houseparty for your contacts and webcam access. Yet your privacy is in your hands and you can never be too careful.
Don’t forget to put on your party outfits before connecting with your friends and family members. And even if you haven’t been out recently, continue to wash those hands, especially before eating. It’s a good habit to follow.
If you are using any other app for video conferencing or playing games/connecting with your friends, do share with us in the comments below.
